Yes there is unless it's closed down within the last six months. It's one of the two pubs in the main station building (the other being the Head of Steam) which are accessible from both St George's Square and from Platform 1. It's listed on page 574 of the 2009 Good Beer Guide.
It always amazes me when there are ticket inspectors out in force in the booking hall/entrance, because all you have to do to avoid them is to walk off the platform into one of the pubs and out the other side into St George's Square! |

Had a swift one in the Head of Steam last year and it wasn't bad. Comfy furniture and feels more like a pub that the King's Head, which is a bit spartan and more like a working men's club (I think it used to be the parcels office), but for range and quality of ale the King's Head is significantly the better of the two. Oh, and if you go in there wearing Quins colours beware a fanatical Hudds fan called Steve who will want to swap shirts with you!
(Best pub in Hudds IMO is the Rat & Ratchet on the Southern edge of town just off the ring road, with The Grove also well worth a visit, although you can't really beat the King's Head for convenience when travelling anywhere.) |

I don't think it sells any lagers for tarts like you who can't handle their bitter. Lager sheep are herded into the Head of Steam.
Kings Head is fantastic and a great selection of ales. I've yet to visit Rat and Ratchet and Grove but Prince of Denmark's comments echo what I have already heard and I will be visiting them both for sure next time. 16 handpumps in Grove isn't it? |
