| [quote="Sebasteeno":105y5tnk]With Abdul gone that not only frees up a load of cash but also a marquee spot too. Now need another half for deffo as Charles showed last season he's not ready yet by a long way - wouldn't go for Sneyd. This could really work out really well for the club[/quote:105y5tnk]
frees up a marquee spot but only £50k on the cap which will be restrictive unless anyone knows of a half back who came through our academy and would command marquee money?

I don't like the rule personally but Leigh have Lam and O'NEIL in under it and Wakey have young Vagana too. Wonder how much junior RL they played over here

We could still in theory move Jordan Lane (eg) onto the marquee spot even if he's only earning £70k. It would free up an extra 20k on the cap. I know it's really nothing much extra, but there is scope to put any home grown player on the marquee spot and as long as they're earning more than 50k we will get a bit of cap room back.
But yeah, it's unlikely to lead to any significant signing, but there's not exactly any significant players available anyway.

| Does the last marquee spot have to be a player who has come through our academy, I thought it was just a domestic signing, so in theory we could sign Sneyd and only 50k would count on the cap.

If the rules are still the same as last year and not been amended further, the third player has to be just a Fed player. But you need at least one Fed trained player in order to have the full compliment of three marquee players.

Clutching at straws there Jake, as any player fitting the above criteria would have to want to live in Hull and not leave a stack of winners medals at their current club. Presume you’d also expect his family to support Hull FC!

| I'm very aware that there isn't much out there but for me Hull need a right foot kicker to provide balance and someone who's a running threat.
Sneyd is obviously a better player than Abdull but Hull would again have two left foot kickers and two primarily organising halves.
If I was Myler I think it'd be worth a shot to see if Wigan might release Jack Farrimond for a season long loan.

It’s silly, clearly. At what point does a rule become so watered down as to no longer effectively be a rule? Joe Vagana was with Bradford 2001 to 2008, and Isaiah was born around the turn of the century, so it is plausible he played tots rugby for 3 years. O’Neill is a slightly narrower window. I wonder what the official position is now. For Lam 3 years at a community club was mentioned - O’Neill just ‘featured’ for Halton Farnworth Hornets.

It’d possibly be better to just create a SL ancestry exemption at this point.

I'd be going for Will Pryce, think him as a runner would work with Seizer[/quote:38tckowu]
I'm hoping we have someone lined up but god knows who at this stage. Agree Sneyd and Sezer wouldn't compliment each other but I didn't think Abdull and Sezer would have done either.
Pryce would be an interesting option.

I don't get the different foot but, how many RL clubs have one right and one left footed kicker?
Get the other points though.
Charles is the same age as Farimond, so would be a pointless signing, lCharles would look good in Wogans side for the odd game, but neither are ready to play regularly especially in Hulls current side

At this stage I'd snap someone's hand off for Sneyd, near impossible to get anyone better at this stage, even if him and Seizer wouldn't be perfect it's the best we are likely to get.

Even though a left footed kicker Sezer generally plays right side,I don’t think it’s a massive problem which foot they use tbh

Let's be honest, they're constantly amending all the rules anyway to appease clubs and make exemptions. As soon as a club wants to do something, those in charge find a way to make it fit a "rule". It's why we have marquee signings and upcoming changes to who counts on the quota instead of raising the cap and quota allowance.

Literally said to my business partner in the office an hour ago about this. Say to Wigan he will play upwards of 20 games this year - helps us out to source a 6 for next year

| With his injury record it was always going to be a gamble. Unless there was a fitness clause in place a 3 year deal was poor judgement.

| what we all just wanted too see from the new regime was passion on the field and ambition off it and although we'll have to wait a month to assess the first bit this news today certainly means that although it might be hard getting the best players to Hull in general and Hull FC in particular we can match anyone with the offer we make. Love the guy as I have always done, but I don't think Marc will come back although the lure of having a pop at being our highest ever goal kicker etc and returning as a hero to finish his days at the FC might be a draw but if he really did move to Salford for family reasons Leigh would be a better bet for him. Although I do believe that the owners who have an obvious eye for business see this possible signing as a way of boosting season ticket sales further.
However the actions of the last 24 hours do for me at least show that a) we have ambition. b) we have a good business ethic and are willing to back the coach and spend the cash if we need to and it befits the Club as a commercial enterprise and c) (as we saw with Walker) the coach will be fair and honest in his dealings with the players but if hard decision have to be made the sentimental approach which has cost us dearly in the past has now left the club. At least Mr Myler and Co give us something to talk about!

| Just when we thought it was a quiet spell...
I have never agreed with the Abdull signing he is too injury prone and several coaches have tried and failed to keep his weight down.
Sneyd would be a great short term measure but we must remember he is now 33 and not very fast (neither is Sezer) so need to watch we don't tie ourselves down and be stuck with an aging slow halfback paring for two long.
Other option is we start the season with Cust/Charles and gamble someone becomes available later.

Sneyd would be a great signing for 2 seasons. He has a good fitness record and he was playing great last season. He is better than any half we have had since he left.
Charles is not the answer this season. After being thrown in at the deep end last year, he needs to go out on loan for a season in the Championship and develop his trade without the pressure of the SL.

I'm sure very few clubs have one left footer and one right footer but its a way of giving the side an edge. Inevitably if you have two right footers or two left footers, one of the two plays on a side where half of the field is essentially blocked off to the long kick. A big part of Wigan's recent success was putting Bevan French in the halves and whilst he's clearly a great player in lots of ways, him having a right foot kicking game gave us a different option which was so valuable when teams put pressure on Harry Smith.
The thinking behind Farrimond would be that he could share the role of the second halfback with Charles and perhaps could benefit both. Plus he's a running threat which Hull are lacking atm.
Also, Cust was bloody awful when he played on the right for Wigan. His best spell was on the left in early 2022 when Tommy Leuluai was still in the side.
Was it the right decision to move Jake Trueman on given the situation Hull are in now?
