So, potentially another memory failure, were they condemned when the council owned the stadium? Or was that the west stand? Or neither?'"
I’m not sure if the council owned the stadium at that time, or just had responsibilities for ground maintenance. I do seem to remember the council returning ground maintenance back to the club, and within days, the council condemned the lights as unsafe, resulting in new floodlights being required. Some things never change where someone in council doesn’t take kindly to Trinity.

My step-dad was Principal Electrical Engineer for WMDC at that time and I'm fairly sure he was the one that condemned the floodlights. It was the tubular steel poles that they were mounted on that were the problem as when they were originally installed they were not capped off, so over the years they filled up with rainwater and began corroding from the inside out. Apparently when they drilled into them to check their stability, jets of water came shooting out of each one and my step-dad couldn't understand how they were still standing, so had no option but to condemn them on safety grounds !!

Thanks for the explanation, it always makes sense when someone explains the reason behind the event.

| Bradford Bulls have returned to play at Odsal but in their absence Stock Car Racing has been re-introduced resulting in the pitch now being 2 metres narrower than the minimum requirement. But they have been given dispensation by RL to play there! Anybody surprised by that decision ?

No I’m not surprised, some people are bending over backwards to accommodate the Bull, but I find it more surprising that the opposition clubs agree to playing on a undersized pitch, unless said clubs have given Hobson’s Choice.

It's 4 metres - 2 metres per touchline.
51 instead of the minimum 55 metres.
And, just to really rub it in - it was officially measured as 50.8 metres wide before today's match. That won't be made public though...oops!

| I try to keep an eye on the council planning meetings, and today I noticed the June 17th meeting on the council site shows.
10:00 am CANCELLED - Planning and Highways Committee
I am aware that JM mentioned at the May Q&A, it would probably be the July planning meeting when both the Stadium and the Newmarket plot 8 applications would be heard. He also said they (the Newmarket lot) had been told by the council and Trinity, that the July deadline had to me met.
It mentions on the council site, “there are no meetings in August “ therefore, if the Enabling application (plot eight) isn’t heard at the July meeting, and as mentioned at the Q&A session the Stadium funding hasn’t been agreed between Trinity and Developers, the club would walk away.
We have not had any news on how or if those discussions on funding have been concluded or ongoing. I know the parties involved will have to keep meeting discussions, confidential until any agreements are signed sealed and delivered, but surely, we could be told, talks are taking place.
I, along with others on here, still have reservations about the developers, and considering that the club has still not asked fans, public, to support the plot 8 application, is a concern.
If the July meeting doesn’t work out for Trinity, then it’s highly unlikely that the September start date of Stadium redevelopment will happen.
Sorry to be a bit doom and gloomy just as the playing side of the club is looking brighter, but our long term future is still uncertain.

As someone involved in this since 2004, I'm not the least bit worried. It will happen when it happens and these delays overall are not huge.
It is worth noting that Covid has had a huge effect on the situation. You have to laugh, only Trinity could be so unlucky as to be on the brink of something big only for a pandemic to arrive. Nobody saw that one coming.

The electric power boxes, are they the grey cabinets at the back or side of the pylons and looked quite rusty if yes they are now green very shiny indeed. I would suggest they're new.

Ah, well they wouldn't have been illegal - they would have just been very hard to source, as they wouldn't be being made anymore.

Metal halide discharge lamps are still being manufactured and sold to help maintain existing installations, nearly all new floodlighting is LED so as the control gear fails the fittings would be getting replaced by LED, plus there is now a generation of LED lamps that are retrofit in discharge lighting.

The cabinets may be new, I'd expect them to be part of the new lights but the electrical plumbing that feeds them and the foundations they sit on is the same as far as I'm aware unless other issues were found.
Don’t believe me? Does it really matter? Fine, as you’re clearly training to create another nonissue then email the club and ask, I also believe MC stated the same on zoom but I may be wrong on that.
Bet you’re the kind of person who hunts through 10-year-old tweets to find young cricketers who make the sort of silly comments 16-year-olds make. Oh, what a joy.

| The only part you are correct with is that the foundations are solid, pylons, lamps, cabling, connectors, and the shiny green cabinets all new.
Who would hook up a brand new floodlighting system to power equipment over 30 years old I do believe that there are legal standards to be met with electrical installations and gaffa taping new to old is probably a no-no at best, and breaching the regulations illegal at worst.

I do have a good memory and I did think at the time your post seemed a bit odd, spending 10's of thousands on new pylons and then corner-cutting by keeping ancient electrical fittings that are likely to fail and having had a chat with a volunteer at the Club I thought it only fair to share the news with you I know you like the facts right, don't you?

Not really, I’m oft on wrong, this is a forum not the high court.
You’re just being a pedant because you can’t argue any other way.
So as far as I recall and it’s a few month ago, the cost of the floodlights was kept low because the concrete foundations were in good order as I believe was the electrical supply to them. It doesn’t take much imagination to see the savings, so why does this offend you. I thought most fans would be happy at suchnews but not you,
I believe that LED lighting uses far less power so puts less strain on the system, I suspect if anything the old electrics were over spec.
So yes if they have changed the control boxed then great, I imagine the old ones were somewhat antiquated being 30 years old.
Have a nice day and try to enjoy the ground improvements, they are for your benefit.

Indeed, If you rewire your house you don't get the electricity company to run a new cable from the substation. The supply cables can easily be tested and being potted, unlikely to be subject to weathering, Also, as you say the power drawn by the new lights will be much lower than the old ones.

Not sure facts come under the description of pedantic but only you could say two different things in two consecutive sentences.
As for the house rewire, the power coming in remains the same and I doubt that a supplier would renew the kit when a rewire takes place but everything your side of the box really should be new and meet modern specifications.
Thanks for your input, I'm all done a reply to this post is not necessary but I'm sure you as you seem to like to have the last word but give it your best and try not there a good fellow.

So basically what seems to offend you is my descriptive powers regarding the state of the wiring. Jeez you need help, who cuffing cares, the new lights are better than the old ones and some cost savings were made using some of the existing infrastructure.
I can’t be alone in wondering what your problem is.
