I remember Mathers playing in the centre for Cas against us one game at Belle Vue and i believe he scored and may have got the League Express MOM for what its worth!

Playing there he wouldnt be so isolated in defense but at the same time would we be just fitting a square peg in a round hole?

Watched the highlights from the Wigan game and looked out for Mathers as I thought he had a poor game on Sunday.....it certainly showed I wasn't dreaming about it.Put BJB at full back for me

If we stay up, there could be lots of wage freed up for a better back line next season. Have a look at the squad list at the top of the page. Prop could be an issue if not resolved quickly before April. 4 first team props due for renewal, 5 if you include Tautai.

If BJB gets signed before this weekend I'd play him at full back if Keinhorst fit to play centre alongside Sykes.

I also think that wing and fullback are two rolls that two new people can come in to play without upsetting team dynamics.
Forwards need to understand the defence process in the middle with half backs more so. Half backs running tea, even worse when new.

Wing and full back have a well defined roll and can jump straight in imho

Also mathers is up for renewal this year so let's hope we don't give him another contract and sign Ben Jones Bishop on a permant deal.(if the budget allows us to do that)

Don't you think it's a little premature to look to replace any of the existing team until it is confirmed that he has signed. At the moment we could have the same discussion about Billy Slater and who he would replace.

BJB on the wing for me. Fox on other, Sykes in the centre. Mathers is a little shaky but most fullbacks would be with an ever changing back line. For all his faults Mathers has experience and we need a few players to cement positions if we are going to do the simple stuff well, new centre and half back combinations every game isn't going to help. Pack should be sured up with Scruton's experience.

Having said that might have a switch round if Billy Slater signs.

Not sure a months loan of a player will do the team.... At this stage of its development... Any good. Bishop is a good player... But we need to show some faith in the squad, unless, of course, the signing is for the season.... Or longer.

Could go one of two ways having BJB for a month.
Could be the catalyst to get our misfiring season going and when the month is up see what the situation is at Wake and Leeds.
Or could upset and disrupt a few players but would like to think that their professionalism would recognise that any quality addition to the squad can only be good for the team as a whole.

One of the problems I see in the UK is the absence of a reserve grade set up. Players are not kept match fit in an environment which replicates the first team playing structure... Brining short term loaners means someone else doesn't play at all... Ultimately that's why Leeds want a relationship with Trinity and Northern... Where else will Suitcliffe and Bishop get match practice...

Further... Our own new players are being brought into the team (reserve and back up players) not match fit and not used to the structures in a match play environment.

Taking on short term loanees exacerbates that problem... Not about disrupting and upsetting individuals... IMO

Think the most disappointing thing is that Wildie is not getting a go after he stuck by the club in their hour of need on less money.

Maybe a few players need to be disrupted? One of the problems with a squad that lacks depth is a corresponding lack of competition for places; individuals get complacent and perhaps don't give of their best.

By contrast - Shaun Wane dropped Charnley this week and publicly said why; that's one way to motivate someone to do better.

Players that are under performing don't seem to get dropped, yet others are excluded/ dropped for the most trivial things.
My first ever post on here was to defend Mathers but over the last 12 months his performance have declined.
Not really form you would expect from a season Super League player with his CV.
Add to that he is VC and he should be leading by example and if his form is off, drop him and send a message to the rest of the squad, that no one is safe.

Oh and I think BJB should be at FB if we get him.
Offers more attacking threat than the wing.

I know Mathers has his faults but the reason he his seemingly making so many defensive mistakes is because others in front of him have failed!
Our defence, generally, against Bradford for example, was pathetic.
It hasn't taken Sammut long to weigh the situation up.
We have the players to survive and do well if we get things right.

I was also critical of the players in front of him when I defended him but he also seems to have lost his attacking edge as well.
Sammut has sussed it out early doors, that we need to put bodies on the line defensively.
Fullback is a lonely job but when you have been doing it as long as Mathers, you expect better.

Sandaltrin - have a look at the highlights form the Wigan game and take note of Mathers and that's only the highlights.

It was only two games ago people were praising Mathers for a one one tackle, I think it was Hock.
Yet now he's been rubbish for ages.

Unfortunately it is the fullbacks job to organise the defense from the back also, so whilst he may not be in the line he is still a key contributor to it's effectiveness and at times, and he has to take his share of the blame for the lack of organisation in the defensive line.

Shocking player. I thought he would be useful to you because of his leadership as he seems well liked but the bloke has become a liability and someone else needs to be given a shot.

If it is a straight choice of who to drop for an incoming fullback/wing Mathers needs to go over Lynn every time for me. Lynn is raw but at least he adds something to the team.
