1000's probably relates to the construction, landscaping etc not exactly local long term jobs (when yes in reality it's probably only a couple of hundred) but it looks better in press releases. Happens in pretty much all new developments how it will benefit tons of people.

Yeah, I fully understand that but, 1000's is just utter nonsense.

The artists impressions on how it was going to look, didn't show that many units/retail developments, unless this was just to stop the locals from panicking.

Good luck to 'em, lets just hope there will be some life breathed into Newmarket before too long.

Hopefully the council will push through Newmarket for yourselves. Having both clubs in new stadiums can only go on to benefit the city as they'll both attract more fans.

In fairness, they're probably using the same optimistic formula that all developers use when estimating job creation; the same one that will have been used in trying to get NM through planning!

Think he meant if both clubs had new stadiums both clubs would get bigger which they would + Derby games would be bigger.

Just because the leader of WMDC and his associates will no doubt be heavily involved does not make it a community stadium for the City of Wakefield.

It dates back to Tricky Dicky doesn't it, when he thought that sticking the word 'Community' at the start of the sentence automatically qualified the previous build for the grant funding - without actually creating the appropriate legal entity?

Shouldn't think it applies now - it's not a community stadium - it's Cas Tigers stadium, and good luck to them; Steve Gill and whomever has worked with him in the background has pulled off what successive regimes at WTW have been unable to. Despite the smug asshattery of a very few Cas posters, I'm happy for them - but then I haven't read the Cas Forum recently...

Agreed - but if (and it's a big if) the proposed new stadium at Glasshoughton were to be given "community" status would WMDC try to get out of building community facilities at Newmarket by saying the 5 Towns Development is for the people of the Wakefield district ?

They can pretend all they want but I live in Wakefield and it'd be a 36 mile round trip for me to get to the proposed site of the "community" facilities which actually isn't local to me or my community!

Its a big district but unfurtunately it's impossible to put everything in the centre. Wakefield city centre is not central to the Wakefield district.

WMDC have no intention or compulsion to build community facilities at Newmarket - they never did - and for anyone who was in doubt about that, the inimitable Mr Box has stated clearly in the media that it's nowt to do with him or WMDC and is entirely a matter between the club and the developer.
