I don't recall this being broadcasted over the P.A yesterday
Who's attending this Thursday, I've really enjoyed the last two, both game-wise and crowd-wise
I found it tucked away on the events page

| Usual advice required please.
Have the option of either catching the train at Chelmsford, onto Stratford then Waterloo to Twickenham or
Tube from Elm Park to Richmond and then get the bus.
My normal route is from Chelmsford.
What would you guys suggest???
Many thanks as always.

You could always get the tube to richmond and the train to twikers. Might be a tad crowded with it being the tail end of the rush hour though.
As lay person on all things to the east and after looking at the tfl maps, why not elm park, westham, jubille to waterloo and then on to TW2? All routes seem to be around 1hr 30.

Why does something that was offered one year have to be offered the next? Why is this a poor effort?
By reference to season tickets you are clearly directing this comment at the club. What has the club got to do with the organising of this game? The only link is the ground.
Sorry but yet again another comment that to a casual observer paints the club in a bad light when it is not called for.

Because it's a sign of poor marketing effort, they could have done something to encourage more people down, even a simple discount for season ticket holders, or people who can produce a match ticket from the Wigoon game, but they didn't, because thet couldn't be d. That is p1ss poor, because these things are not difficult to do, they just require a bit of momentum, a bit of goodwill to reward loyalty.

It is not accidental that the game is held at The Stoop, and the RU club aren't promoting this game, it is organised and promoted in conjunction with the RL club and therefore the RL club should either use it to it's full potential or let them go somewhere else.

Good, I'm not usually one for slating the club, but it really does need to sort itself out now and quickly. I dread to think how bad things would be if there weren't fans (including people who use this forum) constantly taking ideas to the club, attempting to nudge it along.

I am sorry but for years the game was played at London Welsh, and before that Headingly. It has always been promoted by the RFL / Students RL. Quins RL have only recently got more involved by the fact the game has been moved to the Stoop - I suppose to promote more awareness (just like Australia v NZ in October, or Quins v Manly). If it where still at London Welsh would you expect the club to say Season tickets in free, denying the Stundent RL some funds?
Sorry but a free ticket would not make a difference to me. I either want to go to the game or I don't. If I do go I expect to pay and contribute hard cash to grassroots development.
I really feel this forum is just picking on aspects of the clubs marketing for the sake of it. Everyone agrees the marketing could be better, we all have our great ideas to solve it - but I suspect the club has to look at it's budgets and say £20K for adds this month or players wages. Which will win everytime?
Bottom line we need a sugar daddy and quick. A sugar daddy who made millions from sports marketing would be the ultimate.
Suffice Quins RL marketing or not , a free ticket or not I won't be going to the Varsity game even though I could get there in time. I have however already booked for October and paid. I needed no incentive from Quins RL marketing for being a Season Ticket holder to go see the Aussie and Kiwi's (the Stoop beats QPR's ground by a country mile).

Quins RL are promoting this game, just like they did last year, that's why they've been distributing flyers at games etc. They had a chance to make something more of it, but they can't be d, that's the bottom line. I'm asuming that as this is being promoted as a RL fixture it will be the RL club who takes a cut of the bars etc, if that's not the case why are they even bothering to promote it (even if it is only half-d), the RU club aren't bothered?
As it happens I will go to the game and pay to get in, but that's because I'm one of those people who will turn up year in year out without having to be encouraged, but relying on people like me isn't enough. Besides the promotion of the Varsity game isn't so much about grass roots development as about trying to build a connection with a certain audience by creating a showpiece
Some sort of deal would have been nice, half-price with a season ticket, or a match stub from the Wigoon or Manly games. Maybe even give free tickets to people who purchased tickets for Manly etc. Even if nobody uses them it's a sign of goodwill, and if people do use them then they may get some money over the bar.
You talk about £20k for advertising yet miss the fact that the Varsity match is a cheap option for building a bit of goodwill or loyalty but they're just not d about taking it. We got a decent bit of movement forward at the Manly game, but I can't see much momentum off the back of it at the moment, maybe we'll see a push on the Warrington game, I hope so.

| Ian L was most interested as he had already funded some support for Oxford RL students it was then the Stoop was offered. Suspect he is still agreeing the fixture but not in daily contact with the club to ask about promotion and not shelling out for free tickets to ST holders.
But ... still great value for a tenner I'll be there.

I doubt anyone was shelling out for the free tickets tickets last year, it was probably just part of the deal for using the ground. Even opening just the East stand there are likely to be a couple of thousand empty seats.

I don't thik it is your whining that has paid off, but feel free to take the credit .
Though I have to say the club have hardly made a song and dance about free entry. The flyer last week at the Manly game certainly did not mention free entry to ST holders as best I can recall.
The devil is in the detail, or in this case the very small print on the website.
I might change my mind and come along, but I doubt I will be able to drag the wife and rug rat.

I travel from brentwood on the trains and I find when its open the Waterloo & City Line is a godsend for getting to the stoop.
Train into Liverpool St, 1 Stop on Central line to Bank, 1 Stop on W & C Line to Waterloo and then get on your train to Twickenham, this is definitely the quickest way from where we come from to Twickenham. Jubilee Line from stratfor takes much longer as it stops so many times
The way home may be a little harder as the Waterloo & City Line won't be running, then from Waterloo the Number 26 Bus* that goes to Liverpool Street is easiest, or if you don't like the buses, northern line to Tottenham Court Road, then Central Line to Liverpool Street, etc
*I catch this from bus stop P on Waterloo Bridge when I use it.

Agreed!!
A thought...
If Quins RL are in the minority, (which lets face it we are a minority sport down south) surely the clubs voice should be stronger, because in most aspects of modern life the minority voice always seems to come out on top of the majority.
So it seems again we are bucking the trend.
