It's part of the Philistinisation of life generally. As 71 has pointed out before, Warrington is pretty much a cultural backwater and whilst limited, Walton Gardens does have some attractions. Shame the Heritage Centre with its history of the property and the Lewis Carroll story has closed. There is an interesting bike collection there at the moment.

took my little boy who`s 3 years of age(nearly 4)a few times and he loves it..went around christmas time as well he had a ride on the train which went round the gardens again he loved it..just hope this place does`nt get flattened for the sake of other little kiddies who will miss out..whoever was moaning about the price of icecream dont buy one take your own refreshments..or failing that do what we did and pop into the walton arms for a spot of dinner..its quite a nice relaxing day if you give it a try

That is pretty much spot on. There is no culture or history in Warrington that is worth mentioning, now they want to sell and redevelop Walton Garden. It's disgusting.

I can't think of one place in Warrington with a bit of culture or hostory that you can visit for a day out: The old house near Sainsburys in town is a restauraunt, there's constant rumour of the Barley Mow being turned into a wine bar, Bewsey Old Hall has been sold for housing development (which I'm gutted about)... there isn't a single place I can think of that is an example of Warrington's heritage that's not been essentially raped by the council.

Bewsey Old Hall could have been lovely restored as tourist attraction, there is plenty of help available from English Heritage, but the council would rather be lining their pockets that leaving anything of importance in this town.

It is a shame about the Heritage Centre, I've been a fan of that and often take my child to see it. The Lewis Caroll stuff is something Warrington should boast more about.

4 generations of my family (that I know of) have enjoyed Walton Gardens over the years.

Think the councils idea is a good one. They have no money to do anything with the place & if it doesn't get sold will fall into rack & ruin. At least this way the rest of the park will be preserved & improved.

In fairness to the Council, the HSE was behind the removal of the equipment. Orford Park is choc full of play equipment.
