| Whilst been careful not to jump to too many early conclusions do you feel that the squad is full of too many average players as opposed to more quality players but fewer in number. Many of the new players are already tried and tested at this level and I'm not sure what we can get out of them that previous clubs haven't already.
A player like Sibbitt for example should never stand in the way of our junior players being given an opportunity. I personally would have liked to see players of a higher calibre signed to bolster are existing squad including the junior players who learned so much last year.
Finally I find it remarkable that Addy hasn't found his way into the seventeen especially yesterday!

| I would much rather have quantity! Lessons learnt from last year......we had signs of promise against Leeds but if you had told me at the start of the season we would be win less after 2 games I would have fully agreed with you!! The only thing disappointing is the way we lost against Leeds I fully expected a hiding yesterday when we announced no half backs were playing!!!

| I agree Sibbit has been poor so far this season but Potter said he'd be making selections based on how players perform in games. So I guess we'll see what happens.
Last year we threw the kids in and while they got some experience it was in a losing side and a few got a bit knocked about. I think we need to bring them in carefully or they'll get smashed every week and that won't do anyone any good. That said whenever Tom Olbison plays he's looked the part. I'm sure Donaldson will be back as soon as he's fit. Addy I would have in the 17 anyway while our halfbacks are out. If Koppy doesn't pull his finger out I'd give Tom Burgess a run.
I agree we need some more quality and we have space under the cap. Lets watch this space.

| Sibbit was pretty damn good against Wakey.
Trouble is, he wasn't against Leeds (penalty machine) or Wigan. When it mattered

| Getting the balance between (affordable) quality and quantity is what every club in every sport is aiming for.
After three years of poor recruitment striking that balance isn't something that can happen in one close season, for a good example of how long it can take look at Wigan, their early 2000's squad was superb, but imbalanced salary wise and it took them a number of years, and a change in ownership and outlook, before they got back to where they are now .

| Our quantity doesn't seem to have helped just now does it? We pretty well stocked for back row forwards, but unfortunately not for half backs.

| Last year we had Orford and Southernwood who are halfbacks.
This year we have Briggs, Herbert and Southernwood so that's much better. Obviously we're just unlucky with injuries so far.

I would add Kearney too. Although his primary position is fullback, I think when he plays alongside a good half, he's good enough to play there. I'd have no problem with Kearney paired with Herbert or Briggs. It's only when he has to essentially play both half back roles himself (as he had to yesterday) that he struggles there.

| Its all very well having Southernwood but clearly the coach isn't going to select him even when no halfbacks are available!
Whilst I agree playing the rigours of super league week in week out might be too much, surely he can fill in every now and again. If anything this would speed up his development as he will witness first hand whats required of him to play on a more regular basis.

The trouble with Kearney is I don't think he is particularly strong at directing the team around the field. He is much better when he is free to roam about a bit and take on the line. If he plays alongside Herbert on Saturday we should have a much stronger chance of getting a result.
