| I really can't see any NRL player that has that much potential wasting his time and costing himself money by moving to Super League. If Wigan could even compete with the NRL it would show they are up to their old tricks again.

| Reed wants a new contract at brisbane and he will absolutely get one, Wigan can throw as much money as they want but he won't move back to the UK especially when the lovers are all over him in the NRL.
Cherry Evans likewise won't move to the UK, i do think on current form he is head and shoulders above Sandow who is on quite a ridiculous wedge. He would be a tremendous signing but come on guys put your heads on the right way!
As for a player in negotiation with the NRL from this side i wouldn't be surprised if it was Atkins, he is a top player with the aggression needed to play in the NRL plus he is fast and has good hands. I would have him in our side anyway of the week. Tomkins has it cushty over at Wigan and he is the only one out of their team who could make an impact in the NRL, O Loughlin wouldn't do much due to age and depth that teams have in back rowers. Robes signed a new deal and Myler etc simply aren't good enough.

Hargreaves would be a good signing for us if the roosters don't offer him a new deal. He's big and rough.

| Right we've got Lance, Lomax, Wheeler and Gaskell therefore I'm not interested in Cherry. We've had great success with all-British half backs and I'm happy to see us give the opportunity to our own home-grown products rather than go after him. It would be madness to ditch on those three future stars just because somebody has fluttered their eyelashes at us from across the bar.

I think it would smack again of a lack of ambition. Carmont is quite probably the greatest overseas player to pull on your shirt so I'm not sure that signing a current England international would compensate for his loss. Realistically, if you want to come close to replacing Carmont you're talking of Inglis or someone like Meninga at his peak, perhaps even another Gene Miles. It's a thankless task replacing your journeyman but I'm sure there's somebody out there who could do as good a job if you look hard enough.

| As much as you joke Carmont has been exceptional for Wigan and he'll be very tough to replace.
It will take a player earning a higher wage as well to get somebody of a similar standard. He's been a steal of a signing!

Oh Rogues
Chumming up with the old enemy, eh?
Wasn't it a Warrington youngster that caused your team a pile of problems last week. What do the numbers 37-36 mean to you?

| If we have money to spend we need to throw it at 2 big props, a centre and a half back.

And a winger, and a back up hooker should Robes be out injured again, and a couple of decent second rowers ...

Been saying for while now and had it all thrown in my face.
All I got - we don't need a centre we've got wheeler. We don't need props as we've got perry, laffranchci, TP, clough and LMS. We don't need a halfback we've got lomax, lance, wheeler and Gaskell.
I seen it all coming.
And for my next prediction - Royce Simmons has set us back years! All the crazy $hit he's done will be a long road to recover.

We're fine at centre in the greater scheme of things... We did indeed need 1 or 2 props and a #7 desperately going into this season though (and I've been saying exactly the same for the last year since Kylegate too). You can't sign what's not available though and Lomax will suffice for the next season or 2 until we can bring a pukka SH in and he can move to #1 full time. Most other teams would kill to have Lomax in their team at #7 so we shouldn't be getting too suicical about it. As for props it's a bummer that the club's apparent attempts to sign another one in the summer came to naught, but we still have just about enough strength when (if) everyone's fit and producing the goods, so we'll just have to keep our veritables crossed that that's the case come the playoffs.

If we stick with lomax and gaskell in the halves then we will not be in contention of winning anything in the very near future.
That's not having a dig at the pair of them but IMO if they do turn into the players people think then IMO it will be 2/3 years before they have the experince to guide us around the field.
I'm sure the will have been good experinced halves available.

Like who? Apart from Leon Pryce.....
Problem now is we have 3 very good young halves and Hohaia eating up squad and cap space so bringing in anyone else when we're desperate for a prop or 2 is going to extremely difficult, even if there was anyone on the market.
There are worse things than a season or 2 of rebuilding anyway and every team has to go through it these days... Everyone needs a bit of perspective and to remember that fact. We've had 15 years of continued and unbroken success, a feat that will almost certainly never be equalled in the salary cap era. It just can't last forever when there are so few quality players available these days to replace the legends that have gone over the last few seasons.

I don't know what was available but it's not my job to be looking for halfbacks, it's Royce and the club.
We do have some good young halfbeaks but the word young is the problem. We need a experinced halfback in there to lead the young halves but we went for a fullback to play in the halves
I don't think lomax is a #7, he's a top players but IMO he's not a #7. I ain't got clue what postion would be his best.

| It has been reported down under, two things. one is that Jamie lyon was touted by saints at the world club challenge game, and he would be interested next year and that saints are trying to work out a financial package to take him.Secondly, on the coaching front at saints, the name of nathen brown for 2013.

Unless sia goes we don't have a qouta spot a d the fact he's in advanced talks suggests that's not going to happen.
I was chatting to josh perry before the Catalan game at Langtree park and he'd spoke to Lyon as he was over for the WCC and josh said he'd be interested in coming for 2014 season when he's off contract.
I've got sneaky feeling brown will be at saints next year.

What different resources? I'm sure they spend on salary cap the same as St Helens? Recruitment might be better but that won't happen over a season?
