radio 4 at 8.30 am! what a joke.

I remember watching the draws with a full build up on look north on a monday night when i was a kid.It was an event in itself.Surely we can do better than this?

The Today programme is Radio 4's flagship show, with around 7 million listeners a week. It draws its listeners from across the country, not just established RL heartlands in the way Look North does.

I'm a fan of having cup draws immediately after the televised games on the BBC, but in the absence of that for this round it's a positive move to have one of BBC radio's most listened to shows host the draw.

We need to get away from the northern insularity that dogs the game and open it up to a wider audience. This kind of exposure can only help do that.

Biff you beat me to the punch on this one. I was just about to post my amazement at this piece of news.
I still can't believe it will take place on radio 4 it's either a misprint or somebody has taken leave of their senses.
Perhaps they will ask Polly Toynbee to comment on the draw, I am sure rugby league is constantly discussed by the chattering class in the drawing rooms of islington and notting hill.

Stay where you are, rugby league. Know your place.

Heaven forbid you might upset the class warriors of the internet.

Put it on BBC 1 or 2 then after a national show or give it its's own fifteen minute slot, BBC show us you care about the competition. Radio 4 at 8.30am on a Tuesday for a couple of token minutes doesn't cut it for me.

Saying that, the old slot on Look North with Harry and the velvet bag will do nicely for me, call me insular all you want

I guess the days are just a long gone when masses of supporters gathered round a radio in a pub eagerly waiting for their team to be drawn out of the hat. Surely any fan will learn of the draw within seconds and to add Radio 4 as a first was not a bad idea to maybe gain a little extra publicity. John Humphries seemed quite thrilled.

As an Islington resident i think you'll find there's a lot of RL chat going on around the place (well okay possibly just in this house).

National exposure on Radio 4!! Are there seriously any fans who think this is not a good thing?? By the way JJB was on the very same programme previewing the season and was sensationally good...yes even had Melvyn Bragg saying he wanted to find out more about the game!!
