Seriously Fax fans....What is the point of having one DR player in our squad tomorrow? We're on a good run in't league and cup, yet we change the team week in, week out. Thoughts?

You know my thoughts on the system.
The irony of having the pizz taken for using the system makes me chuckle, particularly when fax are using it themselves.
However, leaving my polite little dig aside for a mo.... changing the team can work. It works for Fev at the mo. Gives our players chance of a rest whilst burning up Leeds players leaving those players vulnerable to injury whilst keeping ours ok for the business end.
There's a lot at stake now as well you know. Those are the positives of the system. Would I get rid? .... in a flash I would but unless all teams sign up to it that won't happen.
Fev are using it much better than fax are at the mo.. and it's getting results. The morality of the decision goes out of the window when there's afe a million on the table.

All true Robin especially the bit about Fev using it more advantageously than Fax. I haven't seen Lannon play but from speaking to folk who have he makes little to no impact on our play. Which brings me back to what's the point?

Apparently Bulls to DR with Widnes. Looks like nobody likes DR but as everyone's doing it then we'd be daft not to. Are the players we getting better than what we have? Who knows but it does allow us to rest players, perhaps one of our lads has a niggly injury and would normally have been pushed out to play, we can now possibly rest him.

We've lost Luke Ambler off our roster so do we look to replace him or instead get a DR in and save the club some money? I think we all know the answer to that.

He's played really well in all but one of our games.

It's not going to go away is it Norm? Missing out on the big finance last year I'm surprised fax haven't utilised it a bit more than they have. It's a results based job and I suppose Sharpy Marshall et al have to pick a side they think will do a job. They will stand or fall by their choices.
If it came to a straight choice.... top 4 with or miss out without I'd opt for the former.... thru gritted teeth. There's too much at stake now to allow ourselves the luxury of morality over this issue.

Very true, we'd All like our clubs to be self sufficient but the sign of times is that we aren't.

I suppose a judgement on the efficacy of dual reg is best saved for the end of the regular season.
Leaving the emotional reasons for using it aside, I'm not seeing evidence that regularly including DR players in the side is in detriment to the club.

What about teams turning up with less than 17 players on a regular basis towards the end of the season when the DR regs tighten up ?

If nothing else, in the generally accepted fact that the player pool is dwindling.

Lannon recalled by Salford at the last minute. That poses a couple of points. Firstly, did he train with Fax during the week? If not why not? If he did what was the point? Secondly it proves the point that we aren't picking our own team whatever RM says. I think yesterday's performance shows that we have lads in reserve who can come in and more than do a job for the team. There's a lot to be said about team spirit and you don't get that by leaving lads out who have trained throughout and shipping someone in on the say so of someone from another club.

Yup.... I can see why you think that...as I had similar thoughts. But evidence suggests using DR players improves the results and doesn't affect the performances of those being left out when finally called upon to play. Scott Turner has had some blinders and whilst Briggsy has hardly had a look in he was excellent at KR.

We have and could go on and on and on about the arguments for and against DR but there's another issue here being challenge and that's team selection.
Regards picking the team that's RM's job, no arguments there.
No argument either that he's in a better position to know who to pick and when to pick them, certainly better placed than any of us sat behind a keyboard with only partial knowledge at best concerning up to date team information.

Salford are not picking our team though, we have had players like Evalds train with us only for us to tell him that he wasnt been picked. Surely if Salford are forcing this upon us they would have told us he had to play?

What happens if we name 3 DR in our 19 and all 3 are recalled? Are we stuck with just the remaining 16 for match day?

Maybe in a few years time you'll be sat there in the 3 Pigs (telling us all what you're drinking, as though anyone gives a toss) with the remaining 100 Fax fans awaiting a League 1 match against Oxford muttering "Well, at least we didn't use DR". *Bag Puss Yawn*

We need to be mindful of the end of the season when DR players are unlikely to be available to us, but the way the competition goes now, it's pretty meaningless (in the top half of the table) unless you make the top 4.

I feel we have the balance just right. We're running a small squad on a low budget, with a reserve setup to bring players through. This is being been supported by a few DR players, none of whom have let us down, and we're probably exceeding expectations in terms of results and league position as a result.

None of the DR players has been a "stand out" with only AOB from Huddersfield (on loan) showing a "class above", but do I feel they have been an asset to the team. Without them, would we still be in the mix in what is now a 5-way fight for the top 4?

If you have ever met sharpy orknow campbell, you may disagree.
But neither of that pair would have anyone from another club having any influence on team.selection. particularly Campbell. He'd do without or give leeds the big FO before he would go down that route. The bloke is not the sort to be beholden to anyone.

Now I don't know the details of fax tie up with Salford. Nor do I know your coach's views on the system.
But I doubt he will have anything but 100% decision making on team selection.
I think sharpy would quit first.
I share your angst with DR. I just like to see it with some perspective
