What happens if Toulouse and Widnes finish in the bottom two? Do the next two teams above them get relegated? Are they re-organising the league at the end of the season?

Just want to know what deck of cards we are playing with.

Just the sort of farcical situation the RFL can get themselves into, by deciding one team can't be relegated, and another can be 'promoted' from the bottom half of the league!

So lets say Fax do get into SL and finish in bottom 2 with widnes, Toulouse cant go down and finish in 9th ?.

8th and 7th to get relegated, I somehow dont see this being able to happen. Fax wont be there at the end of the season, I feel better after todays performance than i thought i was going to.

Thought franchising was been brought into the championships next year?

That's what I thought too. Still, there's a good 10 months left before the RFL have to decide what they're doing

They aren't introducing franchising but are looking for clubs who fulfil certain criteria to apply for a spot in Championship One.

Nar Matt don't worry fella, I'm sure LR isn't worried. we have a cunning plan here. Just in case we dont get in SL, Toulose finish bottom, then Widnes, then us, we will escape relegation by banking on another club going bust and having to move down the Leagues as a result.

We are banking on a thing called past presidence to save us.

I wouldn't say we banked on Gateshead going bust as we were more than prepared to have a season in C1, but you've got to take your chances, haven't you? Let's not forget that 'Fax would have been relegated had the same system been in place in 2004.

I've heard what Matt Calland has said post match, Michael Steele isn't seemingly worried either, perhaps they have a point, perhaps it only matters that you do the business at the end of the season, for this reason I shall now only be bothered to spend any money or support Halifax RLFC at the end of the season, I won't bother to travel to away games, I wont try and encourage friends to come down, I'll just look for the odd free ticket at the end of the season or watch a final should we make it to one.
I'll pay golf or see my family, because clearly they matter, whereas what Halifax RLFC do doesn't matter to the coach and board week in week out.

Described by Paul Cullen as 'phase 1', how many others are for the chop mid-season in phase 2, can't see this announcement doing anything for the Vikings confidence or team morale.

I don't think the Widnes club give a stuff. They've got bigger things to worry about next season. However, treat da championship wiv disrespect and they'll be pulling Harlequins style crowds next year. I don't wish them ill but it would show up the daft criteria selection policy for what it is - an on-field irrelevancy. I've said all along - you don't want to be going up to SL with a stench of failure and mediocrity hanging around and for Widnes it's been there three years. I really do think it will impact their start in SL. You need a winning mentality and they just don't have it. Sure - moneybags O'Connor can spend spend spend but the stench will be in and around the club for some time. The RFL's selection criteria has allowed that to happen.
