I think the statement is spot on - it would be interesting to know where we would have been if there hadn't been a shuddersfield!
But there was and now we just seem to have to battle against the odds all the time - if only we were a little pit village we could be looking forward to a long life in the super league in a crappy stadium and a crowd that would never grow above 5k. We would be loved by the RFL the RL press and have all our players prised as the best in the league. We could also be sure that we would go broke every couple of years and have a bunch of fans that noone would want to stand next too.

However it will be interesting if there is any one response to the critism or we continue too hear absolutely sod all from the sods at red hall.

This statement was JW's valedictory statement as President and was made three months ago. If the RFL were going to respond, they would have done by now.

How did he know Docaster and Sheffield were going to win the play offs three months ago. Anyway you're only paraniod if its not true that they are out to get you!!. The decision not to play a World Cup game in South Yorkshire was always a rubbish one, especially given the city of Sheffield's history of successfully hosting international sports events (ignoring the financial disaster that was the World Student Games), and the fact that the Keepafloat has hosted England games before. Also, Bristol got a game FFS. While I live here and have been involved with publicising the successful host city bid, it doesn't make that much sense considering Sheffield and Donny missed out. Of course, the groups featuring Wales, Cook Islands etc needed a venue near Wales, so I suppose it's logical, but it's still a HUGE punt.

Of course, the RFL's logic was simple: they thought there would be a pro club in Bristol. In the end the people behind the bid upped sticks and moved to Gloucester to be closer to the Chairman's house. So therefore the RFL were left with egg on their faces. Add in the fact that they've sacked the local development manager, who had been dealing with Bristol City Council throughout, and you have a massive mess.

I'm not one to bash the RFL for the sake of it, as they do get some things right. However, I think they made a big mistake not picking Sheffield or Donny for a Wold Cup game. I'm not surprise the Eagles feel like some in the RFL don't give two hoots about them.

Speaking of Ralph Rimmer, he was cheery enough before the final. He even said hello to me and came over for a chat, which was a bit weird.

You see thats part of the problem - places like Leigh thinking thier the gods gift to this sport - if they merged with salford and called themselves Manchester people 'might'? sit up and take notice but as long as the sport looks and thinks small it will be.
