Sad to note the passing of former Robin Bob Harris in yesterday's HDM.

Bob Harris joined the club in 1959/60 season along with notables such as Terry Major, Brian Tyson, ‘Flash’ Flanagan and Arthur Bunting.

The following season he scored 20 tries in a Rovers team which began to shake off the disappointment of the1950’s as they reached the Challenge Cup S/Final only to lose 6-0 to Huddersfield.

In 1962/63 he scored 33 tries which broke the clubs post war try scoring record, however, fellow wingman Graham Paul bettered this with 34 tries as Rovers again reached the Challenge Cup S/Final losing 18-4 to Wigan. That same year Rovers were victorious in the Eastern Division Final, beating Huddersfield 13-10 in the final with Bob scoring a try.

The following year saw Rovers reach Wembley and whilst Bob made the squad he was unable to displace Graham Paul or Mike Blackmore on the wings.

In his time at Craven Park Bob Harris scored a creditable 77 tries in 128 appearances.

I am not a big contributor to this superb forum but just wanted to add my condolences to the family and friends of Bob Harris. I have supported Rovers for many years and two instant memories for me yesterday, on the news of Bob's passing, was Bob Harris scoring 5 tries against Leeds at Craven Park 1963 and the third round of the R.L Cup at Naughtton Park Widnes also in 1963. Rovers were winning by a small margin and under the cosh when the great Vince Karalius sent out a pass on Rovers 25 line, right on the touch line and Bob Harris intercepted and ran diagonally 75 yards to the posts. Cyril Kellet converted and Rovers were in the semi final. They lost at Headingley to Wigan in the semi if my memory serves. Yet another link broken with such wonderful memories for Rovers fans.

Hi - I am a Hull supporter and remember Bob Harris well as a great winger for your Club. I am amazed that only you have come on in response to the original post. Is it that older people dont contribute to these Forums or are people forgetting to quickly. I have been waiting all week for a mention in the HDM but as in the case of my all time Hero Arthur Keegan who also seemed to be forgotten they dont give a thought. RIP Bob Harris.
As an aside I and my Husband spent a Wembley Weekend Arthur Bunting who was a teamate of Bob.

Hi,Yes I just think that the march of time restricts the number of us who can actually remember the older times. I don't think that any of us who ever saw Arthur Keegan play, however, would ever forget just what a superb full back he was. I remember Yorkshire playing the Australians at Craven Park in 1963 and he got laid out by a high tackle from Peter Dimond the Aussie winger. After treatment he just got up and spent the next hour stopping everything the Aussies could throw at him. Nice to hear from someone who also remembers some of the greats from years ago.

I was very saddened to hear about Bob's death. He was one of my earliest memories of Rovers and was a very good player. The thing about Bob was that he was in essence a very straight runner and was very fast.He used to kick ahead and rely on his speed to score. Older fans will remember the night in training when the top of the goal posts (the red thing) fell off and hit him on the head!

RIP Bob and thanks for the great memories. We'll have a hell of a side up there now!

Hi Vincenzo I am indeed,unfortunately, one of the older supporters you refer to. I do remember the night when the top fell off the top of the goalposts but I thought it was Brian Coulson who it hit on the head and not Bob Harris.
