| Well done to Dann Brough I say. Had plenty of knockers early in his career and maybe rightly so but the bloke has some talent & if it wasn't for the fact him & McNamara don't see eye to eye he'd be playing for England not Scotland 100%. We are not blessed with enough good players to leave him out IMO. At least we aren't playing as Great Britain so he'll get a chance to play in the World Cup.
Could have been the halfback we at Hull FC have been missing for the past 8 years. Real shame we didn't feel capable or wanting to use some man management skills & bring him in line at the time. In all honesty though back then Danny was far from the worst at the club for his off the field antics but as he wasn't a Hull lad or a superstar seemed an easy target. Didn't hear too many complain about Greenhill's & Jason Smith's off the field activities over the years & Paul King who I really liked also was afforded lenience on the supporters & clubs side due to being Hull born and bred.
Allowing Broughy & Cookie to leave this club put is back a decade & who knows how much more.

Brough wasn't included in the ETS in March this year, he had a sulk and decided he'd play for Scotland instead.
Since then he's gone on to play the season of his life and had he not made a rash decision in March would probably be lining up for England in the WC.

Indeed, and it's these kind of petulant little brain farts that made it right for FC to get rid of him when we did, hell of a player on his day, but wasn't committed to the FC cause at the time.

Serious question here,
If a player is clearly talented and has that X factor to change a game on his own yet has a poor attitude (due to being immature) would it not be within the clubs interest to pull him into line??

Absolutely, but unfortunately we had Kear in charge at the time (iirc) and he was part of the problem.

No, we had a Sharp in charge, and he binned Brough during our 13 game winning streak.
Can understand why he did it, but upon reflection was a very poor move. Should have tried to help him more. Such a talent lost.

Sharp, thanks for correcting me.
Danny was smoking at training and generally being a bit of a "joker in the pack", so like you say, understand why he was let go.
It was quite some time (and growing up) ago.

That's not quite correct. Broughy was left out of the ETS in March as you say, but was still part of the England setup until Sunday 2nd of June when he was told he wasn't in the England plans and was not picked to play in the Exiles game. At this point he was already having the season of his life and ripping teams apart, so it was obvious he was not going to be picked while McNamara was in charge. The day after, he was interviewed after getting the MOM against Saints and announced he was going back to playing for Scotland in the World Cup.
