| Remember 1982!
We were hopeless last night, outplayed by Leeds in every aspect of the game, and still light years behind the top teams in the compn. Looking at the fixtures still to play, compared to Rovers, it is going to be very hard to finish to even 8th, and you can`t realistically see us beating Leeds next week, especially after the way they thrashed us with an under strength side earlier ths season......., or is there still some hope?!
We were beaten easily by Widnes in the Premiership final of 1982, and nobody gave us much hope of turning it round a week later in the Challenge Cup replay, but look what happened at Elland Road, one of the finest performances in Hull`s history. Can we do it again?
No, no, no, don`t be silly-- I`ve just remembered a minor detail, we did have Norton, Crooks, Topliss, Kemble, etc. playing in the side - power, pace, proper half- backs/loose forward, and ball players across the park!!
Dream on, Agar must go.

Big difference in 82 was that we played good rugby for large parts of the season with the occasional blip into mediocrity. In 2011 we play mediocre rugby for large parts and occasional blips of good rugby.

That was mainly down to losing to Whitehaven away early in the season, we had about a 100 points advantage over Leigh in the end. I was well peeved even as a 12 year old getting a whacking away to a no-hope team who finished bottom & having travelled ages in the coach. Cost us the title that did

| and after stuffing widnes in the last game of that season we had to rely on rovers beating leigh, which naturally they failed to do.
incidentally the cup win over widnes featured a much changed side from the prem final. we had to draft in tony duke and clive sullivan both then the best part of 40 years old

perhaps the most significant change was replacing Kevin Harkin with Tony Dean.
Harkin always seemed to be Buntings favourite and was good, but Dean had the ability to be superb even though he wasn't as consistent. All the scrum possession we got in the replay was due to the Dean/Duke partnership.
