| after the scandals surrounding not only crocker but the ones regards eastwood and bird, i'm seriuosly wondering if it'll be worth trying to sign anyone from australia in the near future..these decisions especially eastwood and crocker are harsh at the least, surely all current superleague overseas players havent had a brush with a speeding ticket etc in there past!!...didnt feka paliasena give a bus driver what for abit back? if he did, how the hell does he get awarded a visa..
visas are now taking longer and longer to apply and wait for, in some cases upto 6 months!!.....if teams were to sign a player from overseas, then they surely would have to get a visa sorted half way during the season before he wants to leave....ie players out of contract the year 2010, will have to apply for a visa in mid 2009!! at leats 6 months before he is due to report for his new teams pre-season training just so as he and his new club know he will recieve one.......

Spend the money on nurturing young English talent?
I've never been one to complain about overpaid Aussie's. I like to see the best players play irrespective of where they are from.
However, this inadvertantly may be a real boost for the English game. Quota's are coming down anyway, and all the clubs in SL are going to have the same problems signing non-EU players.
SL clubs will have to start looking at bringing the talent through themselves and/or looking to lower divisions which will hopefully mean that lower division clubs will get some much needed funds.

| Well we signed Crocker last May! Also i think Berrigan signed in the June.
Clearly it is more important than ever to plan ahead. Now is the time to be getting any imports signed up for next season. Any later and we could be looking at similar problems.

Apart from our French cousins who will no doubt seize on this and purchase all the best convicts. That loop hole has to be closed shut by the RFL.

Agreed. I think the fact we're way ahead of the 2011 regulations in terms of overseas players and homegrown requirements will work very positively in our favour, assuming the RFL don't do their usual "moving the goalposts" trick. Teams maxing out on overseas quotas with few players coming through their internal ranks will do OK in the short term but will face an uphill battle after next season IMO.
