I actually feel for the guy, he's a complete tool for what he did but this looks like absolutely destroying the guy.

hes young and made an error, but nobody died and the world still turns. as i have said about other players who have screwed up,should a players career be destroyed for one mistake coz i dont know anyone who hasnt made bad errors of judgement whilst on the lash. it was only simulated as well wasnt it. it was tasteless, but no more then that

If he comes to SL and gets his head straight he'd be a MOS contender. He's a class player. I assume he'd end up in Lancashire to be near his brother, Micheal Monaghan.

I can't see 'any' club with ambition signing him to be honest. They would lose all crediblity with the fans, media, sponsors etc

Whilst I agree, it's also worth noting that, allegedly, and I say that only incase my facts are distorted; Greg Bird beat his girlfriend and blamed it on his mate, Todd Carney pis$ ed on people from a balcony, Ben Cockayne went psych on someone's head, Gaz Raynor sold dodgy ink etc etc....

My point, if I actually have one, is that people fook-up. Hopefully he'll get a second chance.

your right to a point, but its a given that if he was a success and assisted a team to winning a trophy the sponsors would soon be knocking.
and as for credibility with fans, does any teams fans vilify their own players when they screw up, its usually just opposition fans who give em stick.(raynor, cooke, pryce, cockayne, bailey etc all more or less supported through their troubles by their own fans)
and again it was just simulated. if a geezer put on a welsh shirt, dropped his bags and stood posing behind a sheep the majority of fans would laugh their s off. (no offence intended to the welsh, its just an eg)

It was a little over 2 years ago Carney was disgraced and de-registered with the NRL with people wondering if he'll ever rebuild his career. He's just been voted the best HB of the year, guided wooden spooners to the NRL grand final and played for Oz this morning.
Point being, people are sometimes made better people for these kind of errors of judgement.

Although i would like to point out that as it wasn't his first offence, i have no sympathy for Cockayne, he shouldn't be allowed to play the game again.

Your quite right, mate. It really takes something to turn adversity on it's head and Carney has certainly done just that. I sincerely hope Monaghan can do the same.

Whilst not sounding as if I'm condoning any of the aforementioned acts: For me there's just too much stigma attached to this incident (and quite rightly so) for any team to want him as a person/player. Can you imagine the crap/fallout that would follow his signing?
Mistake or not he (and any club he signs for) will have this following him for the rest of his career.

couldnt agree more.when people screw up they often have to become whiter then white because of the attention they recieve. and as somebody who was a bit off the rails at times as a young adult i can testify to that.i darent screw up and consequently even try to make sure my mates dont go to far when were out,half for their benefit and half for mine.
his experience should be a lesson to others, but lets not ruin his career with moral outrage for what was meant to be a joke.weve all heard chubby brown n frankie boyle etc say worse
i would consider wife/girlfriend beating,drink driving and serious assault as far worse crimes
