Nothing new shipowners will do anything to save a few pennies. Plus other flag states aren't as strict as some when it comes to surveys which the owners also like. Having said that the Bahamian registry have a a good rep.
Plus if I was a Brit sailing onboard I would be pleased by this....

They will still operate to the same IMO and SOLAS regs , and there is nothing to stop the MCA popping down to have a look around.
The two biggest running costs in shipping are fuel and wages. If they don't already do so , P&O will switch to an offshore agreement and save on NI contributions in addition to circumventing EU wage laws.
John Prescott and Karl Turner were a bit off the mark with their comments on the British flag , regarding jobs etc as there is no requirement for UK flagged ships to have British or Commonwealth officers or crew. As for the training there are a few issues there too.
Some owners switched flag to the UK register to gain naval protection in dangerous waters , it was nothing to do with perceived higher standards.
I was Master of the last large entirely British crewed tanker - 87000 dwt , and she was registered in the Bahamas.
