Quote: Stanley Unwin "Spend the money on nurturing young English talent?
I've never been one to complain about overpaid Aussie's. I like to see the best players play irrespective of where they are from.
However, this inadvertantly may be a real boost for the English game. Quota's are coming down anyway, and all the clubs in SL are going to have the same problems signing non-EU players.
SL clubs will have to start looking at bringing the talent through themselves and/or looking to lower divisions which will hopefully mean that lower division clubs will get some much needed funds.'"
Agreed. I think the fact we're way ahead of the 2011 regulations in terms of overseas players and homegrown requirements will work very positively in our favour, assuming the RFL don't do their usual "moving the goalposts" trick. Teams maxing out on overseas quotas with few players coming through their internal ranks will do OK in the short term but will face an uphill battle after next season IMO.
