By a long, long way I'd say.
He's "only" 36 (37 in April) so he could even carry on for another couple of years yet. No young/er Indian batsman has staked much of a claim to replace him as yet neither so I think he'll carry on until he's got at least his 100 International centuries - which given his current form wont be much longer in coming!

Not for me, would have to be Brian Lara.

Look at his record and what he's achieved in comparison to Tendulkar and consider the teams that Lara had playing with him. Lara was in a far inferior team, and had to basically bear the whole team on his shoulders as to whether they even competed or not.

Don't get me wrong Tendulkar is brilliant, but there isn't as much pressure on him, and he's in a far superior batting line up, so there isn't as much pressure on him to carry the team.

Either way both are probably the best of their generation, with probably Ricky Ponting close behind.

He and Dhoni are true mega-stars over there with people watching their every move.

He's the best I've seen, Steve Waugh is the only one who comes anywhere close. I always thought Lara was a bit overrated to be honest.

I'd go so far as to say he's the best ever. Consistently brilliant in all forms of the game for 20 years
