There are just a few hours to go before the most controversial five minutes in Super League, the much criticised 'Club Call' where Wigan Warriors will have to choose their opponents for the Grand Final Eliminator at DW Stadium next Friday night.

But is this an advantage for the Minor Premiers, or a recipe for disaster?

The clubcall gives you no advantage whatsoever. Whoever we pick are going to raise their game. Add the fact that if anything, the week off will probably be a disadvantage to us.

Agreed. No point to it. The whole play off format is wrong but fans opinions don't matter to the RFL.

This sort of gimmick is yet another embarrassment to what used to be the greatest game.

Is it 12.30 or 1.30?
I was led to believe it was 12.30 but @RLSuperleague have just tweeted saying 1.30.

I don't buy into the fact picking a certain team will give them added motivation, surely a professional rugby league team should leave absolutely nothing in the dressing room and giving it their all if they are 80 minuets from Old Trafford, what greater motivation do you need than that?

I personally think The club call is the most stupidist thing ever to be concieved. However if they are to keep it whoever should be able to choose from all of the three remaining teams not just two of them.

I also agree that the week off can be non-advantagious (is that a word????)compared t competing every week? I think the play offs should be kept to top 8 with the following matches in a straight knockut format. That way the top two teams are seperated and in theory have the easiest routes to OT.

1st v8

3rd v 6

2nd v 7th

4 v 5th

Just had a silly thought even changing to this format the RFL can still keep the club call, the highest team out of the two Grand Finalists gets to choose the ref for the GF.

Its probably more of an advantage for the other team (in this case Saints) as if we pick Leeds their mentality will be "they think we are the worse team" so they raise their game but Wire would think "ha that means theyre scared of us as we are better" they may then get bigheaded thinking they are the better team and become complacent.

Its silly we will pick Leeds and if it was based on league position we would play leeds anyway and the same last year. The year before we picked Leeds over Huddersfield which was probably a form thing. Other than that the lowest placed team has always been the chosen team.

Need to stop the crap and go back to top 5. Its a joke that a competition can have a winner that could theoretically win under 50% of their games. We also need to go back to relegation but i know that will never happen as it will eventually see London go down and not comeback.

As for the club call what a concept up thats a bigger joke than the play offs format atm. No one wants it apart from 1 or 2 people who dreamed up the concept.

The only reason I can see why the number of teams in the playoffs haven't been reduced and the format changed is because with no relegation a top 5 for example would result in 6 or 7 teams with nothing to play for by the midway point.

Think you are a tad confused there - 2010 Wigan didn't have the clubcall, it went to Saints because we beat you at the DW.

They then picked Huddersfield, and sent Wigan to Headingley where you knocked us out...

Correct.

The Club Call gimmick has always produced the selection of the lowest ranking team still left in the competition and that's how it'll always be.

Need to get rid of it, along with the Top 8 and return to a Top 5 system.

Of course yes I forgot that. So actually there hasnt been a single occasion where the team with Club Call hasnt chosen the lowest placed side.
