Radz never really ever cocked up either. Slater has had the odd brain fart, one in particular in a certain final stands out.

Going forward Billy is the best, defensively and under pressure radz was amazing. I bet Billy will never in the rest of his career have to put in as many last man tackles as radz (unfortunately) had to do in one season with wigan during our worst phase.

Radz also was the ultimate club man, not knocking Billy but at best he can only match Radz for dedication as his support of Wigan cannot be suppassed i believe.

Billy, amazing player, Radz, ultimate professional and club man (and one hell of a player).

I always thought Gary Connolly was a better all round full back than Rads

What about Joe Lydon? He had everything required of a great full back. Good positional sense with a sound football brain, good tackler, fantastic kicker, good under high ball with a great kick return game and pace to burn. His try in the 1986 Old Trafford Test against Australia was a scorcher and the first by a GB full back against Australia for donkeys years.

Kris was always Mr. Reliable. He did his job and di it exceptionally. Never flapped under pressure and always stood up to be counted for. His positional play was second to none & I can probably count on one hand the number of times he dropped a high ball under pressure.

Why is Wellens on the list? Why not throw Paul Reilly and Brent Grose in too

Kris Radlinski is one of my favourite players to have worn the Wigan shirt.

Not only was he outstanding in defence (and I mean outstanding) his support play was also exceptional. Couple this with a brilliant attitude and work ethic and it's easy to see why he was so good.


Slater may have the edge in terms of talent, but imo the "better" player was Radders.

In all seriousness Brett Hodgson should be on the list as he has been consistently excellent for quite some time now. He is in my opinion the one that got away in recent seasons. Much rather we'd have signed him instead of Piggy.

Rads by far on the list though!

Disagree. Slater has his flashes of brilliance, but he makes some horrendous cock ups, mainly in defence. He's far from solid.

For defence and general solidity, Rad has him licked. Slater's a more dangerous attacker.

Yeh but he was a lazy ba5tard. Lydon was undoubtedly a great player when the TV cameras were on him, but he went missing a hell of a lot. As someone who was regularly stood on the Central Park terraces when Lydon was playing for us, I can pretty much confirm that he got more abuse from Wigan fans than anyone.

Lydon was a threequarter, really. The above try was magnificent, but it was a winger's try when all's said and done, running in an arc, drawing Garry Jack, then taking him on round the outside. He just happened to be playing fullback that day.

As an out and out fullback, Hampson was much better.

Was going to mention him, could that man jump or what?!!!! Bit of a hot head at times but one of the most entertaining fullbacks to play the game

In terms of relevance to Wigan then it's Radlinski all day.

However, I voted for Billy Slater because he is tremendous.

Its a random selection of players and others have already mentioned other full backs that really should of been included as they were as good as if not better than the players you listed.

In my life time i have not seen a more complete full back than Darren Lockyer and it is very much debatable as to whether he will be remembered more as a great stand-off or a great full back, probably both and deservadley so.

Whilst Slater and Minichello before him are both world class full backs they do have weaknesses, particularly in defence. Slater has the ability to just create something out of nothing in attack but he also has the odd brain explosion from time to time.

Darren Lockyer was and still is simply bullet proof.

He made the error in the world cup final and that could well hang over his head for the rest of his career and beyond but besides that he's pretty reliable.................i wouldn't say no if Melbourne fancy offloading him



As for Rads he was outstanding. As a Wigan player he's simply brilliant and evrybody of this era will remember him until the day they snuff it. The preformence at Murryfield literally brought a tear to my eye and it summed up the lads passion for the club, his mates and the town.

I still reckon Slater is a gem though and has him beat just about.

Slater's defence is fantastic, don't let one or two incidents make you think otherwise.

I won't but from watching him in the four nations (i don't have access to NRL games) he didn't look 100% solid when faced with a one on one situation.

For me, it has always been Radlinski. Not only is he one of the best players of his generation but he is also an absolute top class bloke as well. It was a privilege to watch him play. To come back and play and get us out of the mire was nothing short of absolutely magnificent, especially as he was facing doing serious damage to his health long term. Who can forget that away game at Leeds in the final run in that year!

I take my hat off to Slater, he is a great player but he does have great players around him. I take nothing away from Slater, however Radders is indeed "the last of the Corinthians"!

He's fantastic at one on one tackling and positions his body spot on when it comes to try line tackling making sure he gets under the ball.

Like a lot of the Australian players, he didn't have the best tournament of his life but still found enough to tear us a new one when he needed to. He's the best fullback in the world by a margin (and that includes Jarryd Hayne - who again if you go off the four nations, you'd be thinking he was poor when infact he's a scarily good player) and has been for a couple of years now.
