If we are to improve next season we really need to get a couple of quality players in. Shouldnt think we'll sign Inglis but Id like to think we could get at least one or two players who would raise the bar for us. Hard to believe we will get them to come down from Up North when they can move about to another SL club there without moving house so we have to get someone from the NRL.
However, it seems that for 2010 we can only have 6 Federation trained players
www.superleague.co.uk/page.php?id=346
At present we have 7 - Dorn, Gafa, Hecks, Randall, Robinson, Temata, Williamson.
However, some people on the Bulls board are of the opinion that players who were playing here in Feb 2007 don't count towards it.
If that is true I reckon only Robinson and Williamson are classed as Overseas trained.
It would certainly mean that BM could get a couple of quality players over then but does anyone know what this ruling is.
I remember when Stanley Gee was going to be axed they moved the goalposts but I never read what the ruling was.

| They come off quota if there contract expires and they sign a new one, fi say dorn is on a 2 or 3 yr deal he will still count, it isnt everyone who comes off quota just those who have been here before that date and sign anew contract, saying that looks like even that isnt straight forward anymore ie martin moving from wakey to cas.

nearly right. kolpak players who were playing in superleague before feb 2007 can claim federation trained status when their current deal expires and they sign a new one. originally they had to re-sign for the same club but this has been changed and they can now take the fed trained status to a different club. This doesnt affect full quota players, they will stay full quota.

So Temata will not be on our quota list and we must find a Kolpac who is here from another club to pick up another decent overseas player who will move south.

| Also due to being in England for 5 years, Dorn can claim residency and so gain British citizenship at the end of the year, which would free up another spot.

| Why not approach the RFL for a brief summery of the 'quota' rules including the 'exceptions' for Celtic & Dragons.

That would not stand up in court if challenged.

A post from IL on one of wigan's forums explains it using wigan as an example.

Probably would as it is based upon where a player was trained rather than on the grounds of nationality. Also i believe it has been agreed by ALL clubs.

You can not deny someone the right to work if they have a valid work permit and have the required skills, putting artificial barriers in the way are no different to making a decision based on where they were born.

Until the Pies want to draft in another couple of second rate Aussies to replace decent youngsters.

| The only law to preventing people working on the grounds of nationality is a european one which states anyone who has an EU passport is free to work anywhere in the EU without the need for a work permit.
The new quota rules are not based on nationality therfore do not breach that law. Anyone or club who wish to chalange that in a court of law cannot have the interests of rugby league in this country at heart
At least we had decent youngsters in the first place.
