Kirklees College are launching a rugby league academy in September 2012 for players between 16-18 that are looking to take a full time college course. The sports academy has launched this year with men's football and next academic year will include rugby league and ladies football

The team will train 3 times per week (a combination of pitch sessions and gym work) and play fixtures in the u19 student rugby league on Wednesday afternoons. This is a great opportunity for rugby league players in the area to benefit from top quality coaching, great facilities and a full time education. Everything takes place during college time.

If you know anybody that might be interested, please forward them these links: www.kirkleescollege.ac.uk/fulltime/sportsacademy

www.loverugbyleague.com/news_682 ... ademy.html

The first trial date has been set as Wednesday 28th March at 2pm. Any player that is interested in attending should email sportsacademy@kirkleescollege.ac.uk

Thanks

Is the college working with the Giants? Seems to be with the Rams / Bulldogs.

Why no tie up with the SL club in the area? Strange.

Hi,

We've recently had a good meeting with staff at the Giants about working together on this program. More news on that should come out soon hopefully.

What we really want is to make sure all players working in the system at all the clubs in the area are fully aware of the opportunities on offer - with that in mind, working with all three clubs makes perfect sense.

If any of you are involved with a community club in the area, please feel free to forward this information on to the relevant people.

Thanks

The said person has text me tonight asking why you think he is the reason for this when in actual fact he gave the appropriate people a blasting for not getting involved.

Is that the Thewlis guy who made such a massive contribution to the kids going to Oz a couple of years ago. Or the Thewlis who has supported buiding relationships with schools / colleges. Or the Thewlis who has encouraged players to get into H.E. quals...or the guy who was pushing for the Giants to be at the forefront of 'advanced apprenticeships.

May be it is the Thewlis who apparently agreed to work will Kirklees College until they pulled the pin.

It is a b**ger when facts get in the way of a pop at the Giants CEO.

After Ken Davy (obviously the dominant figure) and possibly after Nathan Brown Thewlis is the person most responsible for the Giants being a leading SL team and the best we have had in around 50 years.

Hi,

The only conversation we have had with Richard was positive and the conversation we had with the staff member he put in touch with us was positive.

We're now in a position where we have a good relationship with the three clubs in Kirklees who have all been really supportive. There are some great people involved in Rugby League in Kirklees and we're excited about this development.

If anybody wants to be in touch about what we're doing and would like more information for a friend/relative, please contact me at sportsacademy@kirkleescollege.ac.uk

Cheers!
