Noticed that Sale were looking for an undersoil-heated venue for their Heineken Cup game against Brive...maybe we can put these LSV rumours to bed as they ended up playing in Galashiels in front of a crowd of 98!

Ignore much of that previous post after spotting this on Sale's website....

Quote: "Sale Sharks' game against Brive in the Amlin Challenge Cup will now be played at Galashiels in the Scottish Borders tomorrow Monday 20th December KO 5.00pm). If the game cannot be played at this time/venue due to further bad weather a contingency of Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday (KO to be confirmed) has been set. '"

The game was played at Galashiels (I cannot believe it was playable there!) before a 'crowd' of 98. (It doesn't say whether that included the replacements from both sides!!) Brive won 15-13, courtesy of an injury time penalty goal. Sale were somewhat aggrieved at the different rule interpretations of the replacement Scottish referee!

They managed to get the Newcastle Falcons game on at Galashiels as well so they can't have done too badly up there!

Sounds like their hands were tied by the European rugby bods to get the game played as soon as possible, regardless of distance etc. Read elsewhere that they asked more than 25 grounds that were nearer than Gala (including Hull of all places) but they were unable to accomodate - seems as though the LSV wouldn't have been able to do it as short notice as required, but at least it's a good sign for the Salford game going ahead.

Perhaps they were using Richard Lewis's version of satnav? If so they wouldn't have realised LSV was an option! icon_wink.gif

Thought this was the reason Sharks sounded out the LSV even before the Centurions had ever played
at the LSV...........not as a "new home" but for "winter emergency's" such as this.

Had they played here Monday evening ( or switched it before Sundays postponment at Stockport ) they would probably had 3 - 4000 on ?, certainly a lot more than the 98 in Scottish Borders ! Let's just hope the RFL don't hear of this or they will switch NRC games to Scotland icon_lol.gif

Would be very surprised at that - it's in the middle of nowhere, only holds about 3,000 and has no pitch protection whatsoever.
