I read a small snippet on the tackling rules that said the ref will call 'held' should there be two or more defenders in the tackle, or where one leg of the ball carrier is lifted off the ground.

I hope this doesn't spell the end of some good hits, or drive backs. I also hope that the ref doesn't call too soon where there is more than one player in the tackle, but the ball carrier is still going forward.

I am not too sure about these rule changes... especially as this will no doubt lead to even more infuriating penalties.

Is anyone else aware of this, and what are your thoughts please...

Those rules don't apply to the challenge cup until the third round.

So if a player runs forward and is tackled by 3 guys but is still moving forward he is tackled? Similarly, a player can no longer be dragged into touch by more than 2 players? We used to play this at school. It was called tick and pass!

As I said on a previous thread I do agree with the dragging in touch thing cos it was getting out of hand.

No. If one of his team mates lends weight, then he is tackled.

Dragging - as long as the player is not held (i.e. not on the floor/held upright with a player lending weight), the defenders can move him. Once his ball carrying arm is in contact with the floor, 2 or more defenders cannot drag him along the ground. That's common sense.

There are also some other minor policy changes as well.

Or if one of the tacklers lifts one of his legs up.
