| This is such a funny idea. Russell will be pleased to be mentioned.. There are so many you could put in.
Des Drummond, Jiffy, Alex Murphy (the best), Brian/John Bevan, Briers & Gleeson & Derek Whitehead.
I reckon you'll never agree a team with this one. Good bit of fun though.

Thought I’d take the opportunity to mentioned players that wouldn’t particularly get into any other team.
That’s only the template, I will be very happy to substitute out someone for a livelier Wire.

| Tommy Martyn in the second row for me. Absolutely brilliant hands and a devastating runner with the ball.
Briers in the halves also.

Good point about different players in this category otherwise it could end up 'morphine' into the best team

| Kev Penny was a breath of fresh air when he burst onto the scene. As for what happened after that I think we all have our own views and they are unlikely to change now!

i think the Kevin Penny situation was very similar to Wigan with Shaun Ainscough. Pretty sure the coaches sold them down the river, and killed their careers
Ainscough started well at Wigan, scoring some great tries, but then Noble came up with an interview to ground him and publicly said he was crap defensively and under the high ball. the rest they say is history. If i recall Matt King had a field day the following week against us . I cant believe that a coach could publicly give so much against one of his own players, and it literally did finish his Wigan career

| Kevin Penny, Jonathan Davies, Iestyn Harris, David Solomona, Chris Sandow, Lee Briers, Martin Gleeson, Richard Henare and Kelly Shelford all worth being picked in this one, granted a lot of these were very brief periods!

| Chris Sandow really was so exciting. Then ... the injury. A bit later I watched a video of him fighting in some tough street in Oz.
What might have been ... or was it always going to happen?

On his day, for me, he was the most exciting to watch - such a mercurial player. Closely followed by Jonathan Davies who was probably my all time favourite player since watching in the late 80s.

| Bobby Fulton was the most exciting player I have seen in over 60 years. Sandow was the closest to Fulton's impact on a game I have seen since, it was just a pity how Sandow turned out.

| Toa should be in this. Memories of Toa may be lessened by his second spell when he had lost the edge of his pace (although was a more solid tackler and didn't get sent off) but peak Toa from 1999-01 was a special centre who had fantastic footwork and great hands.

| Brian Johnson was electric at full back - he’d be a good shout for this team.

| Alan Hunte not resonating for any of you? He was an outstanding player and there was better sight than seeing him in full flow on a break or interception.

I liked Hunte, and he did a good job for us under difficult circumstances, but he was past his best. Other than Salford away in the cup, which was great!
Simpler times.

| I thought Hunte was good for us. He was 29 when he joined but was still fast. I think he was a good athlete who retained his pace into his early 30s like Hicks.
He gave the impression of being a bit casual sometimes and it contributed to the general talented but disorganised air of that Van de Velde team. But when he got the ball he could do damage and he was popular with the fans. When he left we missed him.
The year after he left he came back and scored a length of the field try against us for Salford. He was still fast then. But what I remember most about that is Appo chasing him the full length from the opposite side of the field, running across the diagonal and almost hauling him in. This was a year before Appo had his break out (half) season, and up till this point Appo had been anonymous in a Wire jersey, but the speed he showed chasing Hunte there was a signal that a fully fit Appo had top tier pace.

| Good summary Sally.
Appo is often maligned here.
Just imagine if Briers hadn't come back from injury.
Would I have been happy with Appo in the halves?
Damn right I would.
Quite rightly made the dream team.
And I can think of a few halves we've had since then that haven't reached Appos standard.
Ok it was only for that half season (a bit like Sandow) but it was worth watching.
