| Quote WireWireWire="WireWireWire"Powell came with one LLS in about 18 years of coaching lol. Proof is in the pudding, and he was obviously a pudding. Don't try and make out that Powell was ever a good appointment and that Sam also is because he has zero experience. What we need is a coach with experience WINNING. As a coach.'" Where in my post did I try to make out Powell was a good appointment?
People are already laying into Sam because he’s inexperienced. My point was that experience guarantees nothing.
And if you’re suggesting we should only appoint a coach with a fuller trophy cabinet - I can’t see any of them beating a path to our door.

A coach who has won a few trophies may not have the hunger to turn this wonderfully mad club around. We all know it’s a huge gamble but Sam will be very determined and will command respect. He will be thinking that if during his first senior coaching role he does what no other coach could do in nearly 70 years his career will receive a huge boost.
I was dead against this appointment when I first heard of it but I don’t think it’s as mad as it sounds and I’m up for it.

| Anyone remember that tv programme Soap? Each week they went more bonkers than the last. This appointment has that sort of vibe.
Still, it’s done, and assuming he turns up for the next season I will just have to accept it, get behind the team and hope I’m as right about this as I am each week in the Prediction comp (Dear Reader I’m absolutely rubbish).

What I'm saying is we should at least look like we know what the hell we're doing. Your point was moot and would only have held water if you were talking about an experienced coach who had won something before coming to us and then got us trounced week after week while here. Powell came with no success and left with even less. So do you think the absolute best we could do was someone with zero coaching experience riding on the success of his playing days? If thats the best we could do then we might aswell fold the club now. That nobody else would touch us with a barge pole.

So basically you can’t come up with anyone else barring Wane who probably very likely turned us down. Nice argument.

Fair comment just that it does say it on that one.

| There is a suggestion both Long and Gleeson coming, that’s some money on coaching if any truth in that.

By his own admission he wants to go back to Aus as a head coach. If we’re a stepping stone to that it must be a win win situation.
Let me ask you - if not this then who?

So basically you wanna support a ludicrous hiring, like you probably supported Powell when he was given the job, and bury your head in the sand for the next 2 years until it turns out that shock horror, Burgess at best gets us into the play offs each year but nothing more. Something that I frankly have had my fill of. Just as with Powell, its GF or nothing. Non of this 'lets see how he does in year 3' no thanks. We've squandered absolutely expected success for the last 10 years. Burgess will be more of the same.
