Terry Newton

First and foremost I would like to give my condolences to the Newton family.....

.... Now I start to think about the whole situation and all I feel is angry and frustration both towards Terry and the supposed "rugby league family"

Firstly Terry as a player, he was ones of those who we love to hate! At Wigan I hated his attitude and his arrogance (but what do all great sportsmen have?) When he pulled on the GB shirt always thought he was a great player. After the shenanigans with the Sean Long incident, he went to Bradford, where to be fair I don’t think he excelled, then moved on to what was hopefully a fresh start under a proven coach and motivator John Kear, where ultimately it was his downfall!!

Now I wonder how fickle "rugby league family" fans really are!!! As one would accept with the loss of a player people express a lot of regret and sympathy but really is that how they feel?!?!?

I refer to watching "Super league Super Men" People on this forum and this website questioned why on earth such a "drug cheat" Should be on such a programme, For me bar Kieron Cunningham, Terry Newton has been the best hook in the Super league era. For me he deserved to be on that programme on merit on reputation. Whether it is his playing ability or his drugs shame. When I watched this programme it was obvious to see his remorse and how much he regretted it! All he wanted to do was stay at the top of his game and impress his new employer, now I'm not saying what he did was right but in reality when it come to a new job how many of us try to impress our new boss by hook or crook. I work in the building trade now I'm not saying what I do is correct but when it comes to jobs I often fiddle the contractor to what suits best, no one says its right but we all know it goes on! Now for your average Joe whose working, amongst people like ourselves that seems acceptable because I'm looking after myself and as long as no one finds out where the problem? People starting to see where I'm going with this?

For me drug cheating is wrong, we know it goes on but as a professional rugby league player, for whom all he's known all is life is rugby, him trying to stay at the top of his game enabling him to bring money home for his family. He knew he was wrong, I watched the interview with Brian Carney, it was painful, as a man whose watched Terry Newton since he burst onto the scene it was all to see he wasn't the same person, Mr Carney admitted it himself and was an interview he felt uncomfortable with!! For me that was Terry’s ultimate down fall, he tried to clear his name with very deep regret but OUR great "rugby league family" that we ARE when he done his interview, people were saying they disgusted he's on such a show. Maybe your right, a drugs cheat shouldn't be there but he admitted his problems and was all to see he needed help. Instead people came on these forums insulting him to death, despite what people think, because our sport is so small I genuinely believe the players read theses forums and I think Terry's attempt to clear his name went on death ears and that was his downfall. Hand on heart I believe some shames should be ashamed (those fans are now the ones going RIP Terry) Why say that? When the man needed help where was they? When he tried to clear his name where was they?

Today I'm a dishearten Rugby league fan, for one I feel the RFL could of helped more and us as fans instead of abusing players when they know they have done wrong because untimely when have all of us not done wrong in the work place whether helping others?

Who has not sinned please cast the first stone.....
