| Most of my favourites have already been mentioned so to avoid repetition I'll mention 3 players who haven't. David Stephenson & Ged Byrne were both top quality players in pretty poor Salford sides who were an absolute joy to watch. Sadly for us Wigan became aware of their qualities all too soon.
The third is tinged with sadness, we only got to see him at Salford for one season but Geoff Selby clearly had all the talent required to make it to the very top in the game. It was a pleasure to watch him in the red shirt & a genuine tragedy when he passed away so young.

The first time he has been mentioned on this thread. Will always be one of my favourite ever Salford players.
The players listed abouve have reminded me of the garbage I used to watch week-in, week-out.

| I've got a highlights video where Hulme breaks through the (Huddersfield?) defense, jinks one way then the other before pointing MacAvoy where he wants him then slipping the pass to him between the fullback and winger when they come to tackle him. His legs may have been going when he came to Salford but class like that never fades.
Angry Hancock was one of those players you wished had come a bit earlier in his career, he had some outstanding performances and i'll never forget when he trampled Senior in at Headingley but he wasn't fit often enough to go down as one of the best.
Teflon Tex is by far my favorite. Gibbo, Sini, Forber, Eccles, Young, Naylor (1st time), Broadbent, Edwards, Lee, Baynes, Blakeley, Highton, Hadley, Hansen are all up there.

| Quote: king of the shed " As for classing him along with Risman and Watkins Pfff c'mon Bobby he may have scored plenty of points, so much so he's currently our 3 top point scorer ever, but c'mon Risman is an Rugby League hall of famer who played 17 times for GB, captaining an ashes tour (touring 3 times) and 18 times for Wales, won 4 Championships, a Challenge Cup, 4 Lancashire Cups, 5 Lancashire League titles and appeared in countless other finals and Watkins (Or the King as he’s often referred) we I need add nothing. '"
Both surrounded by world class players of their time which allowed them to show their talents and reach the finals and achieve their personal goals, Blakeley unfortualty wasnt surrounded by the same class though his salford career so points unfortuatley didnt make big prizes in the end.
I take the point about being a bit "cant be d" sometimes but when he could be d he was in a different time zone to everyone else.

Zenith, I can't agree. Steve Blakely was occasionally good. Never top quality, never international class. I think he stood out because we not have the best of luck with half-backs, until recently. Still, he was one of the best players we had at the club in the 1990s.
Have to admit that he was never a favourite. There was something about his attitude I didn't like - even before he chased the 'dream' with our scouse friends at Wilderspool.
