Hardly the main reason to choose, but I wondered how the election might affect RL?

Would cuts affect new stadia and central funding?
Not many of the RL Parliamentary group aren't labour.
Do some parties support sport more?

Thought it was worthy of a thread?

I actually read the manifestos of all major parties re: sport.

Labour points to an excellent grass roots funding record (and I can testfy to that)
Lib Dems say almost nothing
Tories have very little about grass roots but mention the RL World Cup

I have concerns that all parties will target grass roots sports funding, but I particularly distrust the Conservatives and to a lesser degree the Lib Dems.

If the current Sport England funding (running to 2013) is targeted, all the good work we are doing for rugby league in Derbyshire will be flushed down the pan in one easy swoop.

When the Tories were in power so was Wigan.

Conservatives at least mention us, get your vote in the blue box. Any yellow vote is a vote for a diabolical hung parliament and a national mess and a red vote is not acceptable.

excellent post. i'm interested in how the policies relate to sport, but more about how they relate to the money in my pocket! hence why i'm getting my challenge cup final ticket from www.challengecuptickets.com - small booking fee, then the knowledge i'll get a ticket at face value... brilliant whoever you support!! p.s whatever happens make sure you use your vote! people have fought for the right to vote and still do in some places!

at least the Tories recognise that the RL World Cup is happening within the next few years, and are pledging to make it a success.

None of my candidates have a declared interest in Rugby League, which could have been a tempter for me to go with them.

I think we have to be realistic (and all sports). After the election there's going to be a huge tightening of the public belt. Sport and culture will be one of the first, and most deeply cut targets. If you really want your rugby to influence the vote, you simply need to know that the RFU=Conservative. If that works for you, tick the blue box.

On a separate issue, anyone who thinks hung parliaments and coalitions result in a mess is historically ignorant. But that's a sinbin thread, I'm sure.

Imagine how much better the sinbin would be if I was allowed to broadcast my opinions on there again..
