But, if everyone gave 50p then £30 million would have been raised. Im not suggesting that should happen. People have the right to choose the charities they support but anyone who thinks small amounts dont do anything might well need the support of a charity themself!

Aside from the fact that putting charities such as the RNLI under the control of the government of the day would be their death knell, you would be willing to stump up around an extra 15% from your salary in tax to pay for that would you?

Its a political thing I know but we spend billions bombing third world countries, bailing banks out etc etc etc.

YET we have to rely on charities to be saved at sea, or to have a guide dog if we're blind etc etc etc

Some of the Cumbrian players should follow the example of Sale Sharks winger Mark Cueto (from Workington) by raising some money for their home towns.

Let's hope they get more of an attendance than is the norm in Cumbria!!!

Its not that simple though. Yes extra funding from the government would be nice but there is no way that most charities could provide what they do if they were controlled by government. The reason a lot of them work so well is because they are largely controlled by volunteers who do it because they want to be doing it.

I wonder if some people on here would have the same attitude had it been thier houses flooded thier town thrown is chaos.

Some people on here need a slap IMHO. Your so far up your own backsides that you've forgotten one of the things that once made this once proud nation, great - common decency.

I do hope one day should you need the help of a charity, your attitude changes.

my house flooded pal!! i still won't give a penny to this fund, as i would never accept it, we need to learn to look after ourselfs.

Workington RL are having a cross code game with their fellow union side in the town.

Sadly in a lot of cases its all talk, or used when it suits.

The RFL should IMO set up a game and let the RL community vote with its feet, let the "i'm alright brigade" stay at home if they want to.

Its a individuals choice to attend or not and i'm happy not to have to stand next to some, who's comments on here do nothing for our game.

Nobody is asking you to give a penny to any fund. That's the thing with charity see, it's voluntary. If you don't want to give anything then don't, others may take a different view.
