| When the tsunami hit the south pacific there was talk of the RL community helping out. RU did the same with a Tsunami benefit game.
Now I know thousands were killed in the tsunamis but the Cumbrian towns have been decimated by the floods and PC Baxter lost his life.
Would it be appropriate to have a Cumbria Select v Super League Cumbrians or Super League XIII game to support any relief fund?
Sometime over Xmas?
Cumbria is our community and they often feel forgetten. I cant think of a better time to remind them they are not?
Opinions?

| I think it would be great if something could be done to help provide funds towards the rebuilding. It is a shame it is the off season or a bucket collection at all games in a set round could have been a quick way of getting funds.

There should defiantly be a game or fund raising event lined up.
I hate it when events like this occur in the UK as it seems to me like we don’t care about the suffering some people are going through in our own country.
If this was some war torn/developing far away country then without a shadow of a doubt there would be a national outcry for money and aid to be sent over. The Red Cross would be handing out all sorts of different items but yet we just don’t seem to get the same level of response when it happens over here?
Don’t get me wrong the Red Cross maybe there but I’ve not heard much from them?

There are generally pretty good plans in place in each area for if there is some sort of disaster with all organisations having their designated roles and then as things develop the roles develop as needed for the emergency (if that makes sense!) it just tends to be so well planned that it just happens without much fuss being made.

| Especially as it an Rugby League area, not that i'm saying i wouldn't care if it wasn't a RL area but I personally would attend any kind of fund raising match.

| Personally, whilst i am sorry to see peoples lives being ruined by the floodwater, and obviously what happened to PC Baxter as well, I don't think that the Asian Tsunamis can really be compared to whats going on Cumbria.
Also, who would the money raised go to? Surely anyone living in the lake district would have house insurance - especially after what happened in 2007.

| Speaking as someone from Workington, I'd like to see a fund raising game but for the proceeds to go to the volunteer organisations that have risked their own safety to help others during this awful time.
The likes of the mountain rescue teams and the RNLI crews have been fantastic and it would be nice to give them something back in return for them to get new equipment etc

Message to the RFL: MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
The rescue services up there seem to have done a fantastic job and something like this would be a huge show of support for them.
Coming from Keighley, which had major flooding in 2000, I hope everything gets back to normal for you all soon.

| I think Derwents idea is awesome and Id make the trip up for such a game.
Honestly TrinityIHC, I'm not comparing the two directly. Only that the comment was made that rugby should support the South Pacific as it was rugby's community. Cumbria is just that.
We are not talking vast sums here, but anything raise for the volunteer services would surely be welcomed and a nice show of unity for the people who have been hit by the awful events of the last few days.
Come on RFL, I know you guys read this forum - what can you do?

| Great idea. Cumbria playing against attractive opposition would be a great shout for the game.

It would have my support even if the amount raised is small it would just show our support. It would also help out the non profit agencies who do so much to help.

Speaking as someone who all my life has been involved in responding to disasters around the world from the Bangladesh floods in 1969 to flood relief in Mozambique (due to being involved with Helicopter operations) the reason you hear an apeal for help from poor counties is because they have nothing to help themselves with. This country we pay our taxes national & locall & they are required by law to have contingencys in place to pay for & deal with emergencys they dont always get it right but they are co ordinated & train for it, the forces Armed & civil are equiped to respond. even the NHS will have had lists of blood donors ready if they needed to call on them non of this gets much publicity as it just seems to happen. It is one benefit of living in a stable country in a stable part of the world. The people in Cumbria will have seen this first hand & will know the work of the savation army & WRVS ect.
