Quote ploinerrhino="ploinerrhino"Shame about Toronto surviving although its only a matter of time , how they are going to get under the salary cap next season god knows with the ridiculous deals they appear to be offering .'"
Well Toronto appear to be part of the issue here. You would think that the Superleague clubs would want to see the season out and have Toronto relegated, but they won at Huddersfield in style in a game the Fartown coach wanted his team to win as Ken Davey is a massive Challenge Cup Fan.
Meanwhile HKR's thin squad started to collapse, so the last thing SL want is Rovers going down. They were relegated once before when they did not come bottom, and Hudgell did not like this one bit and rightly so. If Rovers went down again Hudgell and Crossland could leave. They have tried to leave before when Tony Larvin made an offer.
This is all about keeping HKR secure in Superleague, not protecting TWP from relegation because the Transatlantic League is the future. What the SL clubs are not prepared to do is give the £500,000 parachute payment to Toronto if they go down which is in the rules. Instead they want to give that to the Championship. Matthew Shaw reports on the issues in RL & LE in a "stop press" article. Go and buy one guys
P.S. I don't know how Toronto will get under the salary cap, but it may involve maximising the Marquee player allowance and still running with a thin squad because I think the players they talk about signing are one thing the players they end up with are another. They want Myler and Ward from Leeds, this may be these lads last pay day so I don't see "ridiculous deals"?
