Sean Long on a player coach contract for a season then full time coaching for 2013 ?
Possibly a good move to get herbert into a good half ?
Herbert has started to prove his worth and there are not many halves available and the lad has undoubted potential as shown in the past 4/5 games.
herbert should be retainedas he wont be on megga £ and imo just needsmore confidenc which he has found in recent week .
sean long could possibly moould him into an all round 7 and improve his kickig a little.
i say player coach just as extra cover, so we are not playing southernwood who just isnt upto scratch. an experienced half who can also help southerwood and would have a presance at the club due to being so successful.
maybe bring back a winning maintality to odsal.

Why not just sign Long and bin Herbert?

Why sign long when if lucky he might have a year left in him, where as Herbert is a young bloke with plenty of years ahead of him who can be moulded into a better player with a decent bit of individual coaching , as the above post suggests !!!

as much as i admire Long, he is injury prone and old. isnt liek menzies he hsnt looked after himslef.
herbert coached by long would work wonders. a pre season would show signs definatley.

I'd certainly prefer we kept Herbert than even thought about signing Long. He's been nothing but a sick note since joining Hull. And he's not the sort of player you'd want anywhere near young players coming through. He's bad news.

Yeah I know what you mean, who would want one of SL's best ever SH's near their youngsters to pass on knowledge? Of course, we should keep Herbert to teach Southernwood everything he knows. He might even teach him a short pass and mediocre cross field kick, you never know.
