| He isn't one. Period.
His game is suffering massively with the burden of organising the attack crushing him flat.
If this is allowed to carry on for much longer he'll be washed up.

It doesn't help having lance hohaia at stand off with him, he's utter rubbish and we can't keep going with him.

| You did the same with Eastmond and havnt learnt anything from that experience. Both devastating ball runners so why try and make them ball players.
It's time to move lomax or wheeler to fb, loyalty to wellens is not helping saints move forward.

| Never a scrumhalf. Never will be. He could be effective there with someone alongside him to do all the organising, kicking and creating, but when that man is Hohaia then he's dead meat as soon as he comes up against any top defence. I think we need the season to end right about now and to start again next season from scratch with a proper half-back pairing, preferably with an actual #7 and #6 playing #7 and #6....

| Better start partnering him with Gaskell soon. Have it from a good source his head has been turned by an offer from Wigan for next season. A run in the first team is what will keep Gaskell focased.

NEITHER player is helped by their positions and roles within the team. One sure-fire way to destroy any player's confidence is to give him the role of primary tactical kicker (and co-playmaker) despite the fact that he has no recent experience of such, doesn't know his team-mates fully and with a perfectly good stand-off sat on the bench who can kick the leather off the ball.
Hohaia is a decent second kicker, but never more than that. We know from experience that you need talent to be a good kicker. Yes, training can get you pretty far. But Leon Pryce had all the training in the world (more than Hohaia will have received) and two years later he was still kicking up-and-unders behind his own head.
That said, Hohaia [idoes [/ihave very fast hands. He might not be a genuine ball handler but he doesn't half put some zip on it. He's ideally suited to hooker (especially with his prodigious workrate and tackling) and he could also be a useful scrum half. Provided his responsibility is to give Gaskell all the ball he needs and quickly I reckon he'd prove far more valuable than current worth.

| So Wigan are tapping up contracted players are they, I do hope they have permission from Saints.

If Wigan have been making offers to players in contract they will be in a bit of trouble

His kicking is the worst I've seen at any level of rugby and I mean even kids level, its just utter shocking.
Totally and utterly crazy idea bringing him in to play halfback.

His kicking is no worse than any other Saints player whose taken a shot this season (with the exception of Gaskell).
We have to remember - the reason Lance is kicking is because everybody else is shocking, too. That's an enormous burden placed on someone's shoulders - especially when he is struggling to find his own form - not to mention his team mates.

Hohaia hasn't played well. But you don't write imports off [iten weeks into their first season[/i. Slagging Hohaia is completely stupid. The guy has a FOUR YEAR contract. Precisely WHAT do you hope to achieve - other than attempting a self-fulfilling prophecy? In which case - you might as well start wearing Cherry & White - because you'll be inflicting a similar level of damage.

| I have to agree with this. Last season I was terrified of Lomax with ball in hand - that step into a gap he had was incredibly dangerous.
This year he's far more subdued. Far too much pressure on his shoulders to organise the attack rather than play some off the cuff rugby.

| Lomax is a very easy player to read. He practically has [i"I want to run with the ball as often as possible"[/i stamped into his forehead. Worrying about which receiver to pick out, or whether to kick on the fourth tackle etc. is just not part of the programming.
He's not one quarter the player he was last season. Yes, this is partly because opposing teams have had a look at him now. But it's the weight of responsibility that's killing him. You can see his head dropping lower and lower as the game drags on.
Roby is in a similar situation. He's being asked to go above and beyond the call of duty every game. Yes, we're getting eighty minutes out of him. But we're NOT getting eighty minutes of [ifull contribution[/i. It's too physically demanding. If it were so easy every team would run with one hooker.
For me - alternating Lomax and Roby is the obvious solution. The latter needs someone to take the burden off his shoulders whilst the former needs a role with plenty of possession, opponents to beat and a role with less responsibility. No team in the country would like to face Roby playing fifty minutes at full-tilt and then have to worry about Lomax's agility and pace over the first twenty metres against tired forwards.

47035_1386433761.gif We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_47035.gif |

Last year Roby had one of the best Props in the League backing him up with his runs, so he could do the full 80 as he had another machine with him. This year Roby is still running like a machine but no other player is sharing out the workload.
I'll be honest no idea if Lomax is a half or not, but the pairing with Lance seams to have took the pressure off for one game. Maybe it gave piece of mind if Gaskell was struggling, but since then, it seams it's all been left up to Lomax to run, whilst one of our most experienced players is going to spend a whole year learning a game we can ill afford the time to teach him.
It's not like with Leon, when he had, hooper, long, scully to learn halfback play from. Lance has Lomax to learn from and Gaskell.
