| Quote ="wrencat1873"Sorry Sal but, you are totally wrong.
There was a sequence of events that got us up to this point, right from virus arriving in the UK and through lockdown, school closures etc, etc.
Had Labour been at the helm, do you believe they would have taken exactly the same route ??
Some things they may have handled better and others, no doubt, worse.
However, the current mess falls firmly at the feet of Bojo.
His decisions, his style of leadership and of course him backing the beleaguered Education Minister.
To try and say things "would have been the same" is just plain daft and is just making excuses for this excuse of a government.
Bojo has everyone in his party nodding along, too afraid to question anything for fear of being booted into the long grass.
Also, you will perhaps recall me suggesting that blame for the handling of the covid crisis would e planted at the door of Public Health England, an organisation which has now been replaced.
How very convenient and responsibility for the mess now put at someone else's door. Spineless and two faced, lets see what happens next.'"
Had Labour been in charge lockdown would have been earlier and longer - their view is to dismantle the private sector - the more damage that can be done the better. Don't forget you had a shadow chancellor that was going to nationalise trains, utilities, broadband, generic drugs, education, supply of anything to the NHS etc.
Not a chance the exams would have happened under Labour - I am not saying the opening up of the schools would not have been handled better e.g. temporary facilities etc.
The teaching unions were well against any school opening apart from the one Starmer's kids go to no way Corbyn/McDonald would have challenged them - first job would have been relaxing union legislation including secondary picketing.
Would Labour have handled the rest of pandemic better than the Tories - I can't see how they could have done a worse job to be honest

| I'm not a Labour voter but no one of any political persuasion should be happy at having a lackluster opposition. It is a pre-requisite for a vibrant Democracy, and utterly crucial for keeping the government of the day honest. The Conservatives demonstrated that you trample around the wilderness for quite a while (Ian Duncan-Smith, Michael Howard etc) before finding your way back to being credible government in waiting. Labour are on a very long road back from oblivion and it will take some time. But to pretend they haven't turned a corner under the new leader is wishful thinking by some.

| It was the Conservatives who nationalised some parts of the railways at great expense due to the errors of failing Grayling. With regards broadband they are now suggesting the extension to all homes much like they ridiculed when Labour proposed the same.
With regards the influence of the private sector the much admired Dido of the test, track and trace failures who came from this sector is not the best example especially when the shares at TalkTalk increased when she left. I presume her experience as a Tory peer and married to a Tory MP means she is an ideal candidate to temporarily run the new NHS organisation.
It is agreed that to enter lockdown early would have reduced the number of deaths and the time the restrictions applied so not sure why this would be different under a Labour government.
Who was it that appointed an IRA supporter to the lords Corbyn or Johnson.

Tories nationalised on a short term basis - never meant to be in public ownership long term as you know. Who is suggesting the government own the broadband network - nobody in the government.
I agree re. Dido - inappropriate
Re lockdown - Johnson's hesitance was all around not trashing the economy - Labour would have had no such quarms - as you well know
Not sure about the IRA supporter?

"Johnsons hesitance" is what Johnson does.
He's quick with his 3 word mantras (actually given by Cummings) but, he's not quick of the mark on anything.
Any leader worth their salt would have knocked some heads together or, jettisoned their failing Minister and got on with sorting out the mess.
Bojo prefers to keep well away and avoid having to make any awkward decisions.
Even with the decision to accept the teacher predictions, there are still kids who will miss out on their choice of Uni, due to the places having been shared out, based on the downgraded results.
Anyone remember the Tory promise to "level up", they were having a bloody laugh.

Wrong. Claire Fox was nominated by the government. The Appointment Commitee rubber stamps those nominations and also has the power to nominate any cross bench appointments.

| What makes Johnson angry, the school exams fiasco, Cummins eye test, test track and trace, the number of unnecessary deaths no it is because he has to cancel his holiday because his location became public. It didn’t help by trespassing on a farmer’s field by using the cottage furniture to climb over a fence.
I guess he now knows what all those holidaymakers feel who had to dash back to the U.K. at great expense because of the sudden application of quarantine or those who can’t go at all because they are not insured due to the essential travel definition.

| I have a wife but only one never felt the need to be unfaithful unlike Johnson who has made a career out of it. I admit he is better pole dancer but that is down to his training.
He is entitled to a family life but those that have unnecessary lost loved ones because of his failures also deserve the same don’t you agree or in your world were they just acceptable casualties to have a Conservative government.
I see you are once again using your normal stereotype that I am a socialist with being badly educated and poor, both of which are incorrect, I believe the former helps me see the failure that is a Johnson/Cummins government.
I suppose you prove the opposite because you actually believe that Johnson cares for people like you, he does not but whilst you continue to do so he will not change and will continue to avoid scrutiny.

Seen as title of thread includes War,thought i would change your highlighted quote slightly,as it seems to fit quite well for Tony Blair.
"He is entitled to a family life, but those that have unnecessary lost loved ones because of his lies also deserve the same don't you agree,or in your world were they just acceptable casualties to have a Labour government."

| There was at least a report prepared and published something Johnson seems reluctant to ever do. The report actually held MI6 to be at fault because it was they who produced the dossier. It was from this that the urgency to go to war was decided albeit based on misleading information provided to Blair. Let us not forget that it was the Labour government who pulled the majority of the U.K. troops out. It is a sad fact of life that our armed forces are called into action by all political parties so let’s not be so selective in thinking this is a one party trait. The armed forces job is to follow orders hence the carnage of the First World War
The pandemic has resulted in the excess death of over 60,000 U.K. civilians so you consider this to be acceptable. We are now opening schools no if no buts but what have the government done to prepare for this. I doubt anyone is going to believe Gavin Williamson when he says it is safe because like many in the Conservative party he is not exactly to be trusted.
I expect you will agree with me that the failures of this government have resulted in the deaths of many civilians unnecessarily and the way they are going this is likely to continue increasing or do you believe it was the scientists providing incorrect information which the acted on in good faith.

What would you like Boris to do a report on ?
I trust a report commencing in 6 years is acceptable?
Even with the Chilcot Report,Blair still didnt think he made the wrong decision to go to war.
I particularly like your view on the Armed Forces - its their JOB to follow orders.
Hopefully people on here will stop asking for nurses to be financially rewarded for their efforts through this pandemic, after all its their JOB to provide medical care to patients in hospital.
Not sure of the relevance of Labour pulling the troops out - it was a Labour government.
The buck stops with Boris, just like the buck stopped with Blair.
Im not sure i would consider any amount of excess deaths to be acceptable, although i will wait until the pandemic has settled and it will probably take many years to understand fully the mistakes made.
I can fully accept that mistakes have been made by the government that have led to deaths, same scenario is likely to different degrees across the world.
What i also accept is that all the parties are gash,no matter what colour the rosette.

| The usual defence all parties are bad or the other one just think how bad it would be if Corbyn had won. The problem with this is that we are talking the effects of the virus on education. The bottom line do you believe what the government say that it is safe to return because it is or is it due to the fact they want their parents returning to work.
