I don't see where everyone is complaining about the Government furlough scheme, it's more to do with the handling of the virus.
Take off the rose tinted for a minute, stop trying to manipulate the stats & just admit the handling of this pandemic has been woeful.

Oh dear, Tory meltdown.
You are Boris Johnson and I claim my £5
Back on Topic, are you suggesting that the handling of the Covid crisis has been handled well ?
Remind me how our "world beating" (the words of Boris "liar" Johnson) test and trace system is getting on - it's an absolute joke.

| People are dying now because of THIS Government’s lackadaisical approach to lockdown - just look at the care home and Cummings scandal FFS. How this has anything to do with Blair/Brown’s Labour from over ten years ago is nonsensical.

Social care was an issue under Blair/Brown too.
The Government's handling of the virus has been shambolic - the best they can do is own up and move on. They are lucky it 4.5 years to a general election!!

| Looks like the cat briefly came out of the bag today, with one of the less senior Tory ministers telling us that the scientists are to blame and that they got it wrong.
It was bloody obvious, from the beginning of the daily briefings, where Johnson appeared with 2 experts that, they were there to, at some point be the fall guys, so that, once again, Boris could absolve himself of responsibility.
Helen Whately has said that it was the fault of the science as the blame game begins, albeit a little too soon.

It was ever thus. All this, "we're following the science" was merely a way of saying, "don't blame us if it goes wrong, the scientists told us to do it this way". All those who were cheerleading the government's following of the science will be the same ones putting the boot in when they cry, "all pile on the scientists!".

| I have noticed that since two of the scientists who stood up against the government’s handling of the virus in respect of Mr Cummings has resulted in all scientists being excluded from the daily report.

And now put up as the proverbial scapegoats.
It was nailed on form the outset and with a Prime Minister that has yet to take responsibility of any of his numerous failings, why on earth should we expect anything else.
You can already hear him explaining that "We were following the science".

She is useless - at the end of the day they are advisors - the government makes the decision. Interesting John Hemmings on Marr on Sunday said the only way this ends is through herd immunity - perhaps if the government had stuck to its guns initially we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

| Quote ="Steph Curry"Of course we did. Because we count deaths where Covid-19 is suspected, even if no test or a negative test is undertaken . Happened to my mums best friend. Rushed to hospital with a heart attack. 2 tests were taken, both negative. Guess what went on the death certificate. Most if not all the other countries, only count deaths that are proved to be caused by Covid-19. We are also 2-3 weeks behind the other countries of which, not all declare care home deaths or residential deaths.
The best baramoter is deaths per capita. if we adopted the other EU countries way of recording deaths, the UK would have the second lowest death rate per capital after Germany.
But dont let facts get in the way'"
The facts are that we are actually the worse for excess deaths per million in the entire world. I hope the truth does not get in the way of your false hope that the government are running a successful virus operation.

They need to stop putting Helen Whatley in front of the media. She is really poor and making the government look like it really doesn't know what it is doing.
It's like when Labour used to put Richard Burgon and Barry Gardiner in front of the cameras all the time. These people become the face of the party and the public forms an impression from them that is hard to shift.
I have a largely Tory-supporting family so use them as a bellweather for things that potentially shift the dial. Their default position is to always defend the Tory party and turn everything into "you think Labour would do any better??" but the two things I've noticed recently that have irked them are Cummings (they have signed all the petitions to get him out, can't understand why Boris doesn't ditch him) and Helen Whatley being crap.

I agree they should stick to a few tried and tested: Gove, Sunak, Lewis, Duncan-smith, Schapps, Hancock.

That needs to be tempered by pointing out that herd immunity can be achieved by immunisation- assuming a vaccine is found and made available.

| Also, just because restrictions aren’t put in place doesn’t mean people will just carry on as normal with no major hit to the economy.
People made much of Sweden not having a really bad death rate despite much more limited measures. However, I’ve seen numbers (on YouTube, admittedly) indicating that the impact on their economy hasn’t been much less than in Denmark. I suspect a level of personal preservation kicks In. Being alive is some consolation in a deep recession, a shallower recession isn’t so much if you’re dead.

| So a vile letter from a labour mp accusing patell of gaslighting has been ignored by the millionaire champagne socialist leader of Labour.
I know Labour are at an all time low and close to being overtaken by the Lib Dem’s but could they actually stoop any lower?

I note that I am still waiting your reply to the above.
With regards your somewhat inaccurate statement regarding the position of the Labour Party I would remind you that it is their leader who is currently leading in the polls over the lazy lying PM whose only success is to blame others.
The Conservatives are responsible for the Windrush debacle which not surprisingly they have still not resolved including Priti Patel despite one of the famous altered reports that was produced highlighting the number of errors. The government are of course good at burying, changing or just ignoring any report they don’t like.
Russia - Still to be released
BAME - Large parts not released
SAGE Minutes- Many not released and those that were heavily redacted
2016 Pandemic Report Preparation- Buried
Brexit Impact - Buried

| After weeks of the majority of the population either on furlough or out of work and therefore struggling financially what is Johnson’s economic idea, it is none other than the Vivian Nicholson principle “spend, spend spend”. That will help with personal debt when many have been struggling. I suppose he was not referring to those his party left behind.

Patel may be better placed in ensuring that her own party carry out their review on racism within her own party, you know, the review on Islamophobia, that has now been broadened to cover all types of racism ??
Do you think this will actually happen and if so, will it happen in this parliamentary term ??
