It's the big kick off at Old Modernians this weekend, as Leeds Akkies take on Shaw Cross Sharks in the first game of the 2010 RLC Yorkshire season.
After an encouraging performance in the pre-season victory over East Lancashire Vikings, the Akkies are playing at their new home in Cookridge for the very first time, and head coach Mick Loveday can't wait to get started; "We've enjoyed a really good pre-season programme this year, with very good numbers turning up for training. The boys are looking sharp and we saw some good combinations coming together against East Lancashire Vikings. Hopefully it stands us in good stead and we can give our supporters both old and new, something to shout about at Old Modernians this season, starting with a good performance against a very good Shaw Cross team."
The Akkies will have their work cut out against Shaw Cross Sharks, the Dewsbury based outfit have been competing in the tough BARLA National Conference leagues before turning their attentions to the rugby league summer conference, and with a good blend of youth and experience, they start the season as one of the favourites to win the Yorkshire division in 2010.
The game kicks off at 2.30pm this Saturday 1st May, at Old Modernians Association club in Cookridge, Leeds. The Akkies will also be enjoying the Superleagues 'Millenium Magic' weekend throughout the day on the big screen in the clubhouse, and Akkies merchandise will also be available at reduced prices on the day: (Polos for £10; Singlets, rainjackets, cargo shorts for £5, T-shirts for £3).
