I'd actually forgot he was coaching them!

Scotland 26-6 Ireland
Andrew Henderson, Alex Szostak and Sam Barlow (boo, hiss) started for Scotland. Jack Howieson was a sub. Ged Corcoran played for Ireland.

Corey Hanson also played for Jamaica in their 20-6 win over South Africa. If Jamaica beat USA on Saturday then they will qualify for the 2013 World Cup.

Sheffield Eagles will be represented in Avignon tomorrow by the large Eagles flag, that smells of stale lager thanks to ESO.

My view of the experience.

Scotstoun is around 3 miles from Glasgow centre, easily accessible by public transport but I walked for about an hour as it was a nice morning. It's a council-run multi purpose stadium with a track around it. The pitch was not that good in terms of quality. There are 2 stands, both on the wings and the main one cast a shadow over about 3 yards down the side preventing the sun getting to that side of the pitch hence that side looked a bit boggy. The track did give the kids' pipe band something firm to march on though.....however not being a fan of the pipes it would have been better if they were outside in the carpark

As for the game itself.
In the first bit of the first half there didn't see to be much in it but as the game progressed Scotland just looked much better than the Irish team. It was as if they had spent much more time together as a unit. There were handling errors on both sides though.
IMO the Scottish 7 who I think was Duffy (Leigh?) was easily the best player on the field followed closely by Hendo.
Scotland seemed to be able to get the ball wide much quicker and in the second half did quite a bit of damage down their left wing.

Brian turned up in an Subaru sponsored Irish vehicle which was very green but very posh.

I doubt that the game had been given much publicity within Glasgow as the turnout wasn't that good.
Although it was a sunny day and for a time short sleeved shirt weather. If they want to take these test games seriously then play in a blank weekend mid-season.

The up-side of the weekend was the best curry I have ever had in Mother India's Cafe followed by some quality real ales at the BrewDog Pub.

Hopefully next year the return fixture will be in somewhere like Limerick.... icon_smile.gif

Good luck in Avignon HL and crew. Be careful on that bridge.
