30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

So, please have look here viewtopic.php?f=59&t=594868&start=40 at a very early idea.
Post your thoughts and possible ways that you could help on this thread.
It's a very speculative thing that might come to something or nothing at all and I propose we just initially see what happens.

If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.: |
|
| Outline Summary:
1.Ideas and Location
2.Permission and Endorsement
3.Estimate and Options
4.Fundraising and PR
5.Commission and Construction
6.Bequest and Commemoration
I will leave to one side the necessary discussion mechanisms to achieve any of the above until more consensus views are submitted on here.
Happy to help going forward in any way I can and as an early retiree by choice, I have the luxury of some spare time, despite personal commitments.

| I think the first step to commemorate Roger would be for the fans to insist that his name should be held aloft and should be a permanent feature on either the West or East Stand regardless of whoever sponsors the stand at whatever moment in time ......The "sponsors name" followed by the Roger Millward stand sounds like a good start to commemorate our little man .......The North stand has Collin Hutton's name publicly expressed across it .......The East or West stand should have Roger Millward's name publicly expressed across it from now and all eternity! .......Sponsors will come and go over time, but the Dodger is eternal!
I would love to see a statue of Roger within the grounds of Craven Park, but I think our first step as fans commemorating the Dodger is to pressure the administration into erecting a sign on the face of the West or East stand that says "The Roger Millward Stand" and that it will be there for all eternity regardless of the sponsors that momentarily come and go.

Good post, Geoff.
Yes to both your suggestions from me.
Retiring the Number 6 shirt forever in honour of the great man, as the club has just announced, is a start but not the most sensible and fitting tribute in terms of impact. As for the fans chipping together for a flag at the back of the East Stand, I'm a bit underwhelmed by this too. Just feel that the Dodger deserves better.

| Regarding the statue idea, the administration may see erecting a metal statue of our little man as being too costly (given what I know of our administration and the pointless ventures they have spent thousands of pounds on within the past, commemorating the Dodger with a metal statue shouldn't really be an issue) .......That said, can anyone tell me what ever happened to the money raised by the fans to commemorate Flash with a statue? ........We all donated money to commemorate Flash with a statue, but yet there is no statue of Flash! ......What the hell happened to all the money raised by the fans? ......I ask because there is still no statue of Flash on the grounds of Craven Park (Sorry, the Lightstream Stadium)!
I'm sure we can all agree that our administration is a shower of s**t (the "Flash" fiasco is testament to that), so with that in mind, how can we really expect that the Dodger will be really commemorated by the powers that be?!
Here's an idea ......I seem to recall that a local artist carved trees within the West of the city .......If erecting a metal statue of our little man is too costly for the club, then how about commissioning this artist to carve wooden statues of Roger around the grounds of Craven Park? .....And, how about commissioning other local artists to paint images of our little man on the walls of the stairwells that we all walk up and down on match day?! ........There are so many ways in which we can commemorate one of the greatest half-backs to have ever played the game, a half-back that we were so lucky to have played for us .......If our administration will not give up the funds to immortalise the Dodger in metal, then employing artists to bring our little man to life around the grounds of Craven Park is the next best thing!

| Geoff, what you say about cost it is very pertinent...
Neil Hudgell did confirm on Radio Humberside earlier in the week that the club are still committed to a statue for 'Flash' and having spoken to Neil about this before I am told that the club still hold those funds. In light of all the obvious talk of a statue for Roger it would be an ideal opportunity in the very near future for the club to comment officially on the matter though....

| I trust that as many Rovers fans as possible will turn up and pay tribute to the man who was responsible for all the good things your team achieved.
