When the team is struggling (or playing below fan expectations) like at the moment, there are always a few people that you hear defend the team / club with 'But we're doing okay when you consider where we were ten years ago.' I'm not a believer in this viewpoint personally because I think if the board always thought this the club would stagnate. However, I was shocked the other day when I was browsing some old programmes from 95 and saw our crowds were sometimes 1200! The wierd thing is I was there for all those games, but just can't really picture now how sp it looked.
In a programme from a Donny away game they talk about us in the 'sleeping giant' context, a time when we were in the third tier and dreaming of one day being back I'm the top flight.
Therefore, whilst I am definitely one of the one's disillusioned with the club right now, I must say those programmes did provide a little perspective and reminder of how low we were in the not-too-distant-past.

You've got to remember the east stand was smaller yet it was only the middle were people stood same with the seats and no away support I've been fortunate as a lad to see us be the top team in the country and see us be in the third division also never thinking wed get back but we did and so I just enjoy been were we are now because on the flip side we could be Oldham who are similar to were we were ten years ago

the remember where we have come from angle always makes me chuckle, its right to a degree, as back in the late 90's it was dire at best, but 'remember where we've come from' can go back to us being the best team in the land also. Its more the fear of relegation creeping in this year

Different people have different outlooks. Obviously.
If some people like to think, 'could be worse' and take comfort in that, then that's a good stoic attitude. Others are more passionate and want to highlight the shortcomings so they can be overcome.
The irony is that the calmness of the first group often irritates those that tend to annoyance even more.

I do feel a bit for those that stuck with club through the tough times and have found themselves a bit disappointed with the promised land.
I feel like I get more from Rovers and RL than I 'deserve'* so have quite a sunny attitude to it all usually.

*The club possibly agree - I mean, seriously, where is my Red Membership? Almost blooming April.
