'Thus I am tormented by my curiosity and humbled by my ignorance.' from History of an Old Bramin, The New York Mirror (A Weekly Journal Devoted to Literature and the Fine Arts), February 16th 1833.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_33809.png

Contracted for another year beyond this according to a report in the hdm last November.
Even setting aside sentiment, what would paying him off gain us?

Indefinitely is disappointing, but it doesn't mean eternally - they just don't know. I hope he gets back fit ASAP, we could do with one or two wise older heads out there, and the sad reality is that there's a good chance that one of the other props will pick up an injury at some point.

I've just read the HDM article and I have to say it contradicts what Ryan was saying after the Warrington game. Unless, of course, he has broken down again in light training?

The same article mentions Sean Gleeson yet he was involved in sprint training on Monday, which might well have been rehab I suppose?

What with all of the double-talk it wouldn't surprise me to see both players named in todays squad lol

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Frederick Douglas:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_30596.jpg

If O'Hara really does have another season after this then definitely I'd terminate his contract immediately on the grounds of his persistent inability to perform his job. Offer him this years money and the freedom to do what he likes don't think he'd have much of a case for any more.

We really can't afford to be stuck with him another year he's rarely available and rarely better than average when he is. He has the odd half decent game but that's not nearly enough.

Harsh? Yes but it happens, I'll be surprised if Hull don't at some point do the same with Seymour. In terms of value for money O'Hara is now very much in the Joel Clinton bracket.

If O'Hara's deal only covers this year then I suppose we might as well keep funding his overseas holiday for now and hope he'll sometime be available for work.

That was what the initial reports said in late 2011, but:

www.thisishullandeastriding.co.u ... z2MZymHU1i

We can't just pay players off because they get a couple of injuries. The 'persistent inability to perform his job' I guess would be covered by an insurance - but you're looking there at a 'permanent total disablement' that would prevent him from participating ever again.

As that's a direct quote from O'Hara it does seem fairly conclusive.

We're coming to make some noise!:

It often surprises me at how differently people see players performances. I rate O'Hara pretty highly, he knows when to settle a game and when to step it up. A lot of fans want the game played at break neck speed for 80mins but the fact of the matter is, not even the best teams in the world can sustain that for a run of games even if they're good enough to do it for the odd one.

Our team is young, our captains are young, our oldest player is stuck out on the wing and is often joked about off the pitch for being so quiet. That isn't something that happens with O'Hara, he's vocal and has a wealth of experience at the highest level.

If we can get him fit and keep him fit (very big ask) then I see no reason why he wouldn't compliment our squad. Some of these kids need players like O'Hara around to guide them, even if they, themselves are not playing.

I will agree though, an extra year is a year too far for my money and would have liked to see his spot taken by an approximately 28-30yr old prop who has also been at the very top and has experience to share.
