| Good deal?
Looks like a good bit of work by our BOD.

| Looks a decent deal on paper. £100k is not to be sniffed at. Burns apparently exists somewhere in the middle of the Scott Murrell-Greg Bird spectrum, according to our correspondents in Australia. I tend towards optimism - it's free, after all.

| Whether its good or bad the deal is done and life goes on.
However, its the implications of the deal which concern me. A top 4 club come knocking on the door for one of our prized assets, and what does the club do? They don't put up a NO sign (as they did when Leeds came knocking for Welham). What type of signal does that send out? To me it is either one of 2; Rovers need the money or Rovers are a selling club. Both of these are uncomfortable IMO.
Don't forget, it was seen as a major coup to tie both Blake and Dobbo to long term contracts. They were heralded as the dream partnership. Less than a year later and that dream is in bits without a fight to save it.
Don't also overlook the apparent stampede for Scott Taylor (FC, Warry & Leeds) - in some quarters there's a belief the time is ripe to sell rather than let him see out his contract - and even Dobbo is said to be available subject to offers (albeit rumour).
Its all well and good for NH to lay the blame with agents (unsettling players) but the club can pull the rug, yet they haven't. . .

| If they're both on the same wage and they're both going to play 6 hkr are (very) slightly down (if it's Green from 2011) , throw in 100k and Greens current injury problems and you've got a deal and a half.

Or they believe Burns is a better player than Green?

| Depends what the player themselves wants to do. Did Welham want to go to Leeds or did he see his progress better matched at Rovers at the moment?
If Wigan come knocking and Greem wants to and has a release clause that can be triggered next year then get the 100K is the right decision for me.
Doesn't necessarily mean we're a selling club, but what we certainly aren't is a buying club and at the moment Wigan, Hull and Warrington are.
If Sandercock wasn't happy with Burns as a replacement or indeed if he wasn't available then perhaps we would have said no.

Perhaps, although I don't buy into that line of argument. There's more to it than that.

| From what I have seen of Burns this looks like a good deal to me, the kid is tough as old boots and has the skill of a good SL half back.
Time will tell of course, but I feel we have done okay on this one.

Why? Why does their always have to be a conspiracy?
I read on hear, so I'm happy to be corrected, that NH is spending full cap this season but planning on spending 1.2m next season.
Have you seen your ins and outs?

I don't think he actually said that, only that, in effect, we only had 1.2M worth this year based on long term injuries to 4 of the top 5 earners at the club. When moving onto next season, he intimated we wouldn't operate at full cap, but didn't mention a figure.

We've come a long way, but we aren't as inherently strong as Leeds or Wigan and although our backers have been great for the club, their pockets aren't as deep as a McManus or a Moran. The reality of our situation may be uncomfortable, but it's a lot better than it used to be (so I'm told ) and when you look at certain other SL clubs at the moment, I'm happy to count our blessings.

Cheers Stan, I knew I shouldn't believe ever thing I read on here.
Even so Hkr's recruitment has been good, Gleeson, Burns, Tuimavave, Paterson in for Webster, Green, Clinton and Galea gives you players on the field instead of on the treatment table.
If your replacing McDonnell, Murrell and Watts with Sherriff, Petersen and Green then it's a slight dip in quality to begin with but the savings secure your future.

I agree, there are many factors at play and yes the players do have a say, and perhaps Rovers have tried to persuade Blake to stay, but we won't know until the club make an official announcement. Mind you, I fully expect a statement which follows the lines of unsettled player blah blah!
