I may be alone in this view but apart from say a free ticket No, I am an ex serviceman (23 years) & like a lot of my friends cringe & are embarassed at some of the rubbish that is put about (the main gripe is the word hero banded about). Most of us are proud of what we have done but it is a personal thing & have moved on, we accept that if you have not served you wont understand & we happily live with that. I would be happier if people lobby thier MP to ensure that the young servicemen today get the proper equipment they need to do thier job properly.

As an ex serviceman I'm also disappointed. OFC I'm grateful with all the help the heroes and Armed forces day stuff etc. that goes on but these things should be a celebration of what the forces do and nothing more. Charities should not have to fund raise to improve the lives of injured veterans. They should be offered everything they need by the country in which they so proudly served

| And me, from another ex serviceman.
I Was once at a theme park in America watching the Killer whale show. Before the show began they asked all the servicemen, American and overseas who have and are currently serving to stand up. They then proceeded to play some patriotic tune whilst the audience clapped for 3 minutes. I stayed seated.

| i should have looked who we were playing, i heard wigan were doing something regards the day, but didnt realise it was us who they are playing! Also i agree that the forces personel should have the money to get the correct kit, but as we all know our government is skint so therefore these charities play a massive role in helping the services. A Sapper has also unfortunately died today! How many robins are ex servicemen on here?

C'mon Jack, the real reason you stayed seated was the alcohol

Charities should not have to fund these events but unfortunately the way this country treat Ex Veterans is a disgrace compared to America , not linked to the armed services in any way just an observation.
Ghurka regiment springs to mind and the Nuclear tests on Ex servicemen come to mind.
