| Quote HKRKid="HKRKid"Yeah, right centre. He was bloody fantastic! You've got a future GB centre on your hands if you keep him playing like that.'"
Did OK for a debut, with little time to get used to the team, but there's a lot more to come from him yet - he was fairly poor by his own standards, but a lot of that comes from not quite "gelling" with Fox. That will come, with time, though. Also, he's played most of his recent career on the wing rather than centre.
Congrats on the win, BTW, and glad he played a part in it!

| Quote Gordon Gekko="Gordon Gekko"I stand by my point also.
There is no point having a first team squad if you don't use it.'"
AFAIK, ALL super league clubs, at various stages of their progression, have taken loan players. It's part and parcel of the game with benefits to BOTH parties. In important games its vital to have players the coach can be confident of doing the job, he obviously sees them day in and day out and is in a better position than all of us to make the call.
Think he more than made a good loan signing with Charnley.

| Quote JohnSmith2602="JohnSmith2602"Still don't get it. Are we saying KR didn't have ANY young player who could have done what Charnley did tonight? If that is the case, what does that say about the state of coaching and scouting for the 18s and 20s? The whole idea of the 3 year franchise was, amongst other things, to allow clubs to develop THEIR OWN YOUNGSTERS, (not others).
If you are a good local player aged 15/16 and get offers from KR, Castleford, Wakefield etc. what are you going to think, "if I go for KR, I might get near the 1st team squad, that is until they see a another 'super league' ready player somewhere else!" I think previous blogs about making the numbers up for the 8 home grown player rules is spot on for Frankie Mariano etc. Short term wins are fine. but JM and his coaching staff won't be here in 5 years time. Other clubs seem to be always announcing 3,4 or 5 17 or 18 year olds signing for the 1st team squad and training full time each year, when did that last happen?
KR in danger of being a feeder club for the likes of Wigan, just as Hull are for Leeds. The next franchise app will look at how good the recruitment has been over the last 3 years, and, having to 'hire in' other academy players can't be good.'"
What a load of tripe, you wasted probably 10 calories typing that! Ask yourself this; how many years will Wigan have been developing Charnley to be at the level he clearly was last night? 5/6? Rovers set up was tripe up to 2007 and I don't expect us to see that level of youngster coming through in all positions for another couple of seasons.
It's fairly obvious that Mariano clearly (in JM's eyes) isn't up to SL standard. At 23, I suspect if he isn't there now he never will be.
In 2008 & last year, I would accept we were not doing enough at bringing in youth. That's not the case this season, there is a clear pathway for jr players now, just as clear as other clubs, so this "feeder club" b***ocks is just a load of tosh. Go bang your head and look at the likes of Watts, Latus, Taylor etc coming through.

| Yes, the obvious clear pathway is to bring in academy players on loan or poach them from other clubs, e.g Watts from Castleford and Hodgson from Hull FC!

Watts was released by Cas and Hodgson didnt want to spend another 2 seasons being 3rd chioce to Berrigan and Houghton.
As was said the Briscoe brothers are from Fev, Tuffour was from London so quite why Rovers are having the finger pointed at them here i fail to see your point.
All clubs have to look further afield hence Rovers setting up roots in Grimsby as an example.

You keep using Cas as an example of the "pathway" for youth to 1st team, yet this season alone Cas have loaned 2 Wigan youngsters (Ainscough & Tuson) to help them through an injury crisis.
Rovers do exactly the same and its somehow the Berlin Wall in front of our Acedemy? If you are going to try for the "reasoned debate" form of trolling, you need to up your game sonny!
