Conservatism can be a gamble in itself - that is the underlying thrust of a lot of posts on your board, IMO. Now the challenge is to make a go of where we are. As you say, even Saints don't make money - RL is not a place to build a fortune, I fear. Saints recently turned debt into shares, such is the commitment of their backers. Rovers board has a good record in that respect too, but new revenue will have to be found sooner of later - SL is the place to find it at least. Failing that, maybe we can just trundle along as an East Yorkshire version of Wakefield - I'd have taken that 4 or even 3 years ago. Its possible that Rovers aren't viable as a SL team long-term, but with crowds of 8K, I think we should be able to get by. The headline loss figure is only part of the story of the accounts - how much of that is down to one off payments for capital investment (floodlights, east stand extension etc)? While losses were steady, turnover was up, so the business (as well as the debt), is growing.

And coincidentally around the time of trying to mask a 23% increase in ticket prices with a half-baked and ill-communicated membership scheme. Excuse me whilst I choke on the stench of hypocrisy.

He was criticising clubs for promising new players for next season during this season. Having the previous week promised "2 top drawer players" for next season. Apologies if the double standards there are too subtle for you. At least our announcements were actual players that us fans don't pay for until December.. Yours are vague promises that fans are paying for 8 months in advance. Short-changed indeed.

He has no need to appease the Rovers fans this season as the play offs are virtually guarenteed with the current group of players.

What is not OK is to announce 4 actual new players for next season whilst asking for nothing. Do you really not see how ludicrous his claim to some sort of "respect the fans" moral highground is? Honestly?



In terms of the season passholder numbers point, I guess we won't know until December how we compare. Using your logic, Club Rovers is going so fantastically, and FC fans are so disillusioned, that Rovers passholder numbers could well exceed FC's in 2010.

Id say securing Newton,Welham and Fox to long term deals is being active wouldnt you, it doesnt have to be players from other clubs although there will be a few additions.
Hull have announced players early to give your lot hope of a change afer 2 seasons of under performance on a grand scale.

Where have I said our fans aren't disgruntled, I am agreeing with you. Like you said, Club Rovers membership is going brilliantly, and our fans are hacked off to the point of falling attendances. Surely in 2010 Rovers will get an extra 1,000 passholders and FC will lose at least 1,000, so Rovers passholder numbers will exceed FC's.

Major difference amongst all that flannel is yes Saints have announced signings.
They have also announced the release of Long and Gilmour.
Rovers have not released anybody as yet.

Bradford same scenario as you, crap season so announce 2010 signings early.

You are missing the point. cab man has already said "Build it and they will come". The East stand extension will be ready for the start of the 2010 season according to those in the know on here. With that and the momentum of Club Rovers membership getting off to such an outstanding start, passholder numbers will surely be well up year on year. By contrast, at FC, we are so disgruntled that many will not renew.
