Surely they would have just took over his contract, they wouldn't have paid Rovers anything

| Regarding Liam Watts, its a shame he wants to go, but as been said, if he doesn't want to be here and put the effort in then maybe its time to go.
He should be grateful for Rovers standing by him after his off field antics,

Clearly isnt enough. Has ability, although hasnt been that evident this season for the most part, played half the games? Last season was good in the odd game but was overshadowed by others. Think either this court case, new baby, travelling etc is grinding him down. He isnt in favour at the moment, is this down to ability or attitude? think the latter to be fair. If FC want to take a punt fair enough, if it is attitude id rather we played someone willing to play. He could pull up trees elsewhere, wouldnt make the decision any different, if the heart isnt in it, it isnt in it. Let him speak to others, but hold the registration unless compensation is given in my book.

Lots of talent - it really should feel like a big blow... but it doesn't. Probably best all around. It'll be interesting to see who comes in for him.

| Such a frustrating player to watch, I find myself willing him to do that little bit more because when on form (2010) he really is a cracking player. The problem is he hasnt been in form for 2 years so how long do we wait before replacing him? If he plays well for whoever he moves to then its a shame but I just cant see him doing it whilst still with us.
Under Morgan i thought maybe the gameplan didnt suit him with us not really offloading which is one of his strengths, which is why I expected him to improve this year under Sandy. All in all probably just best to get rid, if anyone ever looked like they need a fresh start its him

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

We're half way through the season, he was in the side at the beggining of the year and didn't perform, in fact gave away a tonne of penalties so he was rightly dropped.
Knuckle down in training and get yourself back in the team, or alternatively, cry like a big baby and go off in a strop.
Don't let the door hit you on the backside on your way out Liam.

he has turned out to be a penalty machine should be a big loss but isnt on the form of the last season and half

| He seems very typical of a lot of players who are from Cas, show lots of potential but the attitude / application is wrong. As Sandra says he was rightly dropped, complete penalty machine and wasn't learning from his mistakes, obviously doesn't want to knuckle down so it makes sense to get him off the wage bill for next year. I'd like to think we could hold out for a fee but maybe this cap / budget is needed to either tie up a signing or go towards a contract improvement for someone like Taylor.
It would make sense for him to be looking towards FC, minimal travelling and it would reunite him with a few of his ex-cas mates (Westerman and Arundal)
Either way, I would hope its the last time he plays for us, even if injuries kick in I would rather play a someone else rather than give him game time now.

In a roundabout way yes. Rovers where well within their rights to seek compensation but instead a severance payment was negotiated (between Rovers and Scott) which the Broncos paid. Because of the nature of the arrangement the settlement tends to be a nominal sum, Scott will have then negotiated a contract with the Broncos.
In the case of Liam Watts. Even though he has been given permission to talk to other clubs he is still under contract. Rovers can still demand a fee for him. Liam can still expect to receive a settlement if he leaves before his contract expires.
Lets not forget though, Liam might do a Mills and sit out his contract if it isn't matched (or bettered) by another club.

There is sure to be interest already. What (for example) would be the difference compared to Jay Pitts move to Hull? If someone wants him, its a crime to rip up his contract and see nothing for the investment the club has made and not seen a return on it.

| [i"Tapped up by us months ago"[/i is the exact phrase a B&W colleague has used today. This particular one has a patchy track record so it may be bogus.

It's not like I don't want a fee, but on the other hand it's unlikely to be a big one. There might be an argument for getting him off the wage bill ASAP and knowing where we stand for next year rather than holding out for a deal. Depends how keen we are to see him move on.
Lovegrove and Murrell should be keepers now, IMO.

| I'd replace him in the 1st team squad with James Green with immediate effect. It appears our Liam has been taking dummy spitting lessons off tommyfromhull.
