| Didn't see the game (well, actively avoided it) but was delighted at the result, and would have changed my avatar to the French RU cockerel thing had they not made a rubbish modern one. The previous weekend encapsulated the difference between the 2 sports IMO - we had 2 pulsating, intense play-offs, they had a complete dirge of a game against Scotland which as far as I could see was just a string of random technical penalties. Not entertainment in any sense.
I agree with the old sea dog as well about starting to feel the same about the England football team. May be a sign of old age, but really, this current lot aren't fit to lace the boots of our team in Italia 90. Heinously overpaid, over-rated <insert term for deletion by Skywalker>. I hope football eats itself.

| Quote: His Bobness "I will support England in anything - except Rugby Union. Was pleased they got knocked out.
They seem to want to stop all running & passing from being played and hope they get enough penalties to win the game. If they do they then think they have done something wonderful.
They are the most boring, negative, pretentious and useless team in world sport.
They tried to rig things for England to get to the final by putting all the southern hemisphere teams in the other half of the draw. Didn't work, shame.'" I missed most of it.
I turned it on with england needing to score 2 ties to win with 5 mins on the clock and my first thought was 'well thats NEVER gunna happen'.
But still the commentators who live in a diffrent world from me where still spouting how it was possible.

| I watched the game and I wanted us to win but what I saw was a game with played by idiots. Can any of these players call themselves rugby players? Some of the decision making was laughable!
Few things I have a real problem with in union is the negativity, get a penalty in the opponets half and the majority of the time a penalty shot at goal is attempted and going back some time now, myself and my grandad used to sit and laugh at watching thier forwards try to pass a ball, clueless!!!!

Of course it can, but the point frankie is making is that there are too many points on offer for either a drop goal or a penalty in RU. More than half the value of a try.
Simple logic dictates that it would be a rarer occurrence in rugby league, especially when you consider that their conversion is worth less than half the value of a try.

I'd also be interested to hear of a RL match in which the losing team scored 30 points and was beaten by no less than 16 penalty kicks and a drop goal. Or was it an even greater drop goal fest dayvoz?

It's not a class thing it's just that the RFU were allowed to carry out the equivalent of sporting apartheid against RL for the best part of a hundred years whilst still trying to claim the moral high ground. I bear grudges. Vive la France.'"

| Can't see why anyone would actually want their own country to lose at anything. More likely to result in union sides throwing big money at our better players too.
Wonder how much influence mike ford has on things?
